Files are to large to fit on 4.7 dvd

Post by psevey »

I have been using MF for years. I have some home movies on VHS that I recorded onto a Panasonic DVD recorder. I took the finalized disc and placed in in the computer. Opened DVD MF4 and want to create a new menu. The DVD however is too large to fit. I recorded about 1 hour 45 minutes on the DVD but DVDMF4 says that it is over 6 gig in size. I don't know how that could be as it is only a 4.7 gig disc? Any ideas to work around this?

You are using a higher bit rate on the new DVD.

The first thing to try is: Go to Project Settings and check Do not convert compliant MPEG files.

Changing the audio from AC3 (or MPEG) to LPCM could also increase the size-requirement by about 1G.

That box was already checked for do not convert compliant movies.

I never changed the audio. I have been doing this exact procedure for years with DVDMF with no issues. Now it all of a sudden is an issue. I tried different DVD recorders, pioneer and panasonic. I then tried different brand dvd's and also still am receiving the same problem?

I would think you recorded it in LP on the panasonic (you can only fit 120 mins at SP on A DVD). This probably reduced the the resolution to about 360 x 576 (for PAL). You can check by right clicking the file you imported and looking at its properties.

To fit on a standard DVD MF would resize it to 720 x 576 and the file size would get much bigger.

You could try making a X DVD (extended) but it might not play on a standard DVD player.

Hope this helps

I did record in SP mode. The DVD itself if I place in the computer and just check file size is 4.1 gig. This is small enough to record to DVD. However when bringing into DVD MF4 it says it is over 6 gig? This one has me stumped. I am open to ideas and of course would love Ulead help, but that is just wishing on a star as they have absolutely no after sales support available on this site or anywhere for that matter. I don't believe they have one employee hired to offer support. In 4 years of using their products I have never received one email response from them.

when you right click the imported video and look at its properties - what does it say?

You said you finalized the dvd so I take it's a dvd-r (read-only) disk.
Usually Panasonic uses 704 x 480 for ntsc. Pal is also 704.
But, sometimes after you import the video's and they are on the
harddisk DELETE them from the timeline and re-import them
back into MF. They should then be recognized as dvd compliant files.
Sometimes this has to be done (deleting & re-importing).

If you edit/trim/cut any video's then they will not be burnable compliant anymore
and need to be re-rendered. Usually the re-rendering is based on the
project settings but MF4 has a FAST ExPORT feature that exports the
video at the same attributes as the original video (project settings are
ignored when using the FAST Export feature). 3rd button down on the
left side of the page.
So if you do edit the video export the edited clip. Delete the original
from the timeline and re-import the video you fast exported.
