Problem Importing music files

Have recently upgraded from Movie Maker 2 SE to Visual Studio 8. Now, the same music files I was able to use in Movie Maker, won't work in VS8. I can't seem to import any music files for background music. I recently did a clean install of Windows XP, along with all Windows updates. Any suggestions?

What type of music files are you trying to import?
are they MPG, WAV or something else?
