Recreating DVD Menu after additional editing of video

Post by timwulead »

When I go back and do some more edits on a video that I have created a DVD menu for and burn a DVD I have to recreate the DVD menu when I create the DVD. Am I doing something wrong, ie a setting, or is the way Video Studio 9 works?
Thanks

I suspect you did not save your project after doing the "Share" step - this would have recorded any menu configuration information that you had performed during the "Share" process.

The "Recommended Procedure" suggests that you do the "Share" step using a new project - and then click on "Add VideoStudio Project" to incorporate the project where you did all of your editing. Then go through the steps one by one setting everything up, create your .iso and/or DVD Folders and then after the rendering to file has completed you must perform a save of your project - this will make all of the work in creating the menu available when next you want to re-render the DVD. I use a naming convention of "menu" for the .vsp file (project file) for that particular DVD (this works for me because I then archive all of my video files etc for that particular movie and then delete all the files - creating an entire new set with the new video I am working on).

Hope this makes sense,

Actually I did a save after creating the menu and after creating the DVD. I have done the editing after burning the DVD and not closing the program and even coming back to the video project a few days later and have the same results. I have had this happen on several projects. If I do no edits and come back and burn more DVDs the menu is there and the only thing I have to reset is the Audio Bit Rate from 256 to 448. Not sure why I am having to do that either. Any suggestions on the Audio? It appears the only time I have to recreate the menu is when I do any editing on the video, cuts, trans., adding video, etc.

I can see how your suggestion works. I will keep that in mind.

Thanks

Actually, I think that is the problem Tim - when you have the menu as part of the same project then from memory the menu does get "destroyed" when you make any changes to the editted content - I guess that is why I "forgot" about it - because I haven't used that mechanism for some considerable time now. I have my menu in a completely separate project - which never gets changed from one run to the next as it doesn't consist of any editted content.

Try the method I outlined in my previous post - I think you'll find your menu is there each time (well, I hope so, I can't remember if I have tried changing any menu entry points into the video...).

Dear Tim,

unfortunately you have to redo the menu if you change anything on the timeline.

If instead you are following the recommended procedure and insert your rendered video as a clip in the share "create disk" step, you will still need to rebuild the menu if you change the clip!

Without any clips, you can't proceed to set up the menu - so I've yet to find a meaningful way of keeping a "blank" project for that purpose.

It's an annoying shortcoming of Video Studio.

re the audio, your bitrate suggests you are using Dolby Digital. (or equivalent in PAL land)

If you have the project properties set to match your first video clip, you can use the dummy insert of a suitable clip into the timeline to set the properties. (then delete the clip)

In order to make use of the smart render feature, your clip should have the same audio settings that you wish to end up with on the finished DVD.

You may also have set up some project propeties templates in "Make Movie Manager" with all your preferred settings.

Hi,

You could just open a project with a dummy clip and the menu template.
Then you insert the real video as clip nr.2 and delete the first.

Remember you can also save the menu template in the customize window.
Just select something already used (frame type f.i.) and you can save again.
