I have tried several different video capture programs (WinDV, Ulead VideoStudio 9, Windows Movie Maker, and Windows Media Encoder) and I have pretty much the same problem (except see below).
The preview menus are always blank, and when I play the file back I get a blank screen. If I pause the video during playback, I can see the current frame (i.e. if I pause-unpause-pause... I can actually see the captured video) while in VS9, but not when I play the file in WMP10.
I am pretty sure it is a PC setup issue, since I get the same when capturing from a different camera. The camera controls work fine, and I do get sound when playing back the captured file. Not trying to do anything cleaver when capturing, using default settings (DV-1).
With the Windows Media Encoder I generate a 118 MB file for a 30 sec clip. When I play back w/ WMP 10 I get choppy video and good audio, and my CPU usage pegs at 100%.
I am using DirectX 9.0c. No problems when I ran the DirectX diagnostics or broken codecs when I ran Sherlock.
