Working with wmv files

Hi Everybody-long time no habla.

Have recently downloaded some old fantastic files about Sugar Ray Robinson in the 50s from the BBC Pathe News site. The files are about 1-2 minutes in duration and are about 1.5-2mb in size.

The files are wmv format.

Is there a way of using VS8 to open and convert to mpeg and burn to DVD?

The only problem is that they have BBC Pathe News written across the centre of the screen! Guess there's no way of editing that out as well!

I downloaded some WMV files of waterfalls and used them and without any trouble. I put them in the background using the chroma key option.
