using crossfade effect in overlay track

Post by rassuncao1 »

Hi. I need to crossfade between 2 graphics that I have placed in the overlay track in VS9. I can't drag and drop the crossfade effect into the overlay track. Am I doing something wrong? Is there another way?

And while I'm at it, is there any easy way to change the length of time an image fades in and out in the overlay track? I need it to be a 1/2 second fade in and a 1/2 second fade out and need to apply this to about 200 images, so I'm hoping it's easy.

Thanks!

Hi,

Transitions can only be added to the main video track. However there is a way to accomplish this with VS9, it is a little time consuming, especially if you're wanting to do this with alot of clips/images.
  • Place your images/clips in the main track.
  • If you are wanting a 1/2 sec fade, this is accomplished with the crossfade transition. Add a transition to the timeline, which by default is no less then 1 second. Then click on the duration in the option box (on the left). The numer in the right-most colum is frames (The format is HH:MM:SS:F, Hours, Minutes, Seconds, Frames). If you use NTSC the frame rate should be 29.97fps, so 29.97 frames in 1 second. Change this to about 15, which is 1/2 of the 29.97. Now you have a 1/2 second fade, this would be set to fade in, you would then need a second transition on the other side of your image for the fade out.
  • You need to do that for each image. I said it would be time consuming...
  • When you have this done for all your images, go to Share>Create Video File and choose Same as Project. Save it to a different name such as MyMovieB..If your using DV-AVI format to edit (which you should be) then you will render an DV-AVI file.
  • Close your project or start a new project.
  • Import the file you just created, placing it on the overlay track
  • Adjust the size to what you want it to be, and viola you now have images on the overlay track with transitions....
