I upgraded my system to a 12x Sony burner (DRU710A) and now most of the attemots to burn produce the error number above. (The immediately preceeding dialog indicates there's a problem with burning.) I followed the recommended procedure at the top of this list to the letter, the drive is in DMA4 mode, is set to master, on the master connector of the IDE cable and is the only IDE device in the machine.
I'm using Sony DVDs rated for up to 8x, the drive is rated to 12x, yet the SW trys to burn only at 5x. I have managed to get 2 successful burns, one at 5x and one when I manually reduced the burn to 4x. All other attempts (about a dozen), have produced the error message without any burning at all taking except for one case where it burned about 95% of the disk and then threw the error.
My machine runs xp pro and is an Athlon 3800, DFI sli MB, 2 gig RAM, 2 BFG 6800 videocards in sli, audigy 2zs, and about 750 gig of storage over three sata drives. Any help would be most appreciated!

Three possibilities come to mind:
(1) Is the firmware version for the burner the latest and greatest?
(2) Have you checked the media type compatibility with your burner at www.videohelp.com?
(3) There is, finally, a possible problem with the Brand of media that you are using. Try another. 12x may be pushing the media a bit farther than it is ready for.

I recently found that I had to write at 4x to Sony 8x DVD+R media with my Khypermedia 8X burner, though I had no trouble wih some cheapo discs and Memorex 16x discs.
The problem DVD's burned, but had sections where playback stalled.
You might try using an alternative burning program to burn an ISO file to isolate the problem - it might be unrelated to Video Studio. I often use Nero or other programs to burn ISO files rather than the Ulead burner, since those programs provide more info during the burn process.
