Computer freezing up during recording

Well my final solution was to create several parts of the project into pieces and then creating the final movie by putting all the new clips together. Worked great. But now I'm freezing during burning. I was even able to transfer the created movie back to my DV Camera but no luck in burning a disk either by straight burning in VS9 or the DV to DVD choice. Any suggestions?

Dear Daddyd,

glad to hear you've made further progress, and there may yet be light at the end of the tunnel, but beware of final solutions!

Do you then create a single video file from these clips as per the recommended procedure?

Or are you keeping them in the timeline and proceeding to the "Share", "Create Disc" step? (not recommended!)

Try wearing a thicker sweater! Sorry, couldn't resist! Which part of the burning process? You might try creating an ISO file for burning to disc later. You then have the option of using other programs, eg Nero to burn the disc, which may help if the VS burning utility doesn't work.

Not sure what you mean by "straight burning in VS9" - hopefully not burning to disc with the video in the timeline.

Don't give up, keep on keeping on!

I put all the small clips into the timeline and made one single file. So now I have one big movie created. But when I go to the burning stage and hit the burn button, it gets to about 2% of the converting stage and then freezes up.

Dear Daddyd,

that could be a clue - because there shouldn't be any converting of video files going on.

You might see "Converting motion menu", "Video/Audio multiplexing" - but if you see a message to the effect that the program is converting video, then either your output settings don't match the project video file you created, or that file has the wrong properties.

If I remember rightly, you had a project duration of about 40 minutes, including still images. Encoded to MPEG-2 at 8000 kbps, it should be around 3Gb.

Well guys, after all this time I decided the only way to maybe find out my problem was to do a full recovery of my system. So I did. Everything back to the way it was when I first purchased this computer. And guess what? Burning a disk or saving my avi file into a mpeg for dvd still froze up. I can only assume it is not my system but it is this program that is causing problems. What else can I believe? Why else would the same problem continue with a completely reformatted system?

Hi daddyd,

you should be careful there - since I bought my pc, there have been numerous XP security patches and fixes, two updates in BIOS, two updates in Realtek audio drivers, one Nvidia video drivers update and several other things. If I used my HP restore CD's to put the pc back to it's as purchased state, it would take me a day to load all the fixes and updates, and then re-partition my drives.

As a long shot, maybe you could check if there is any updated BIOS for your pc.

did you fix your problem ? I have a post with a similar problem I can do anything but burn a disc, my system imediatly hangs when I get to
the burn window. So, far all I got from Ulead support was uninstall and
reinstall VS9 and the update patch..
