Any issues having both Version 8 and Vers. 9 on the HD?

Post by DiscCoasterPro »

Hi all. Say, are there any known issues concerning having both the vers 8 and 9 on the computer at the same time. I don't mean running of course, I just mean perhaps when Vers. 9 installs it may see shared file names that were previously installed by Vers 8 or something and not overwrite them, leaving VS9 having to run using older file version. I don't know, I'm picking at straws.

I am beginning to have quite a bit of stbility problems with Ver9. I rarely even use the program. Something so simple as opening the program, choosng from any one of a number of AVI's I have on the computer, including some of the Ulead supplied shorts. Sticking one on the timeline and then just going through some random edits, mutiple trims, and such. It is never long before it crashes.

The other day I was working on project with my daughter using another application Cyberlink Power Director. (gotta say that is really user friendly)

Anyway we had a clip we wanted to slow way down. PowerDirector only allows for 50% max speed reduction. So I loaded this AVI from our HD folder into VS9 and did nothing more than attempt to slow the clip speed. The program crashed with that notify Micosoft window that pops up.

I closed the program, loaded the same file into VS8 and with no trouble slowed the clip down, went to share, rendered it to file, and then went back to Power Director so my daughter could finish what she was doing. VS seems very finicky about what you do, AND .. how fast you try to do it. Its making me wonder if there are known problems with version dll's conflicting or something.

(btw- P4 2.8HT 800mfsb/1g ATI 9600XT fresh XPPro install, Off line computer constantly checking for hidden TSRs)

I don't know... Adobe is looking better and better :(

Hi.

When I first installed UVS9 I kept UVS8 because I was quite happy with it and wondered if I even should use v.9, on the theory that "if it's not broke, don't fix it." UVS8 didn't seem "broke" to me.

When I tried v.9 I found it very likable right away. I kept them both on the harddrive for a couple of months and then did away with v.8.

You are nonetheless correct in the assumption that there are a few shared files (though I am not sure which ones they are). When you remove VS8, you usually have to do a repair (if you have the disc version of the program) or a reinstall of VS9 when VS8 is removed and you have inadvertently clicked 'remove' on files which Windows suggests might still be being used by 'another program' (namely VS9!!!)

When I first upgraded to VS9 I had versions 5 and 8 on my HDD. On my last re-install, I just kept version 8. I just use it to refresh my memory to answer questions on the forum...
