Problem hearing sound

Post by dhpriest »

:( I used VS8 to capture, edit, and burn a vidoeo from a VHS to a DVD. The finished dvd plays sound fine on my computer using PowerDVD or Ulead DVD player. When I play the DVD in my dvd player, however, I hear no sound unless I press the fast forward on my dvd player remote to 1.5 times as fast. Then I hear sound, but not when the dvd is playing normal. Please help!!!!

No DVD audio on player, OK on computer

I have the exact same problem. DVD plays fine on computer DVD player, no sound when played on regular DVD player. These are VHS tapes captured in MPEG-2, MPEG audio. Any help?

I'm not sure where you are located, but MPEG audio is only part of the PAL DVD standard -- if you are in an NTSC country, your DVD player doesn't have to support MPEG audio.

mpeg audio

As THoff mentioned, mpeg audio is not supported by all NTSC DVD Players.

But check how your audio connections are setup for your DVD Player:

A DVD Player connected to an amplifier via an audio optical fiber cable may not be able to output sound when playing an NTSC DVD with mpeg audio

Is there no workaround then for recording? Is there anything that can be done at the point of capture or afterward? It seems silly that you wouldn't be able to play a recorded DVD on a regular player (not counting the whole DVD-R/DVD+R debacle)

Only thing I can suggest is to select LPCM as the audio format when you do the DVD burning. It's uncompressed (so takes up more space) but it is universally compatible.

I will try that..thanks.

My workaround today was to re-record the disc using a standalone DVD burner....GAH!!!! WHAT A PAIN!
