MP4 Plugin

Post by krwzmann »

Hi all. Does anyone know if the new mp4 plugin for MSP8 allows you to create mp4 files correctly for the video ipod? I was considering picking up the plugin if I can find a benefit from it over my current method for storing my videos on my ipod.

Right now I create my video files as .mpg which I later than burn onto dvd for my production. With those .mpg files, I also drop them into this program called Videora which converts them into the ipod format in .mp4 which works out great. It's free software too. What advantages are there to the MSP8 plugin over the free software out there?

I bought it on Sunday, but my activation code don't work. So you are warned. Have send message to sales. But not gotten any reply. Will reply if I get the darn thing to work. I payed for it, so I think it should be a requirement. I just love activation :(

Hmm, I didn't see MP4 plug-in on Ulead's Web site... Where did you get it from? :?:

Finally got a reply from sales after sending a new reminder of my problem. Got new activation code, that worked without problems. No explanation why the first one didn't work, and no 'we are sorry for your inconvenience'. That is not good customer support as I define it.

First look at MP4 plug-in shows that it only supports Type 1&2. Not Type 10 / AVC / H.264. So don't buy it if you are looking for this.

Over to your question. I guess the answer is Yes&No. Took a quick look at supported MP4 video formats for iPod Video:
* By following the steps in this tutorial, QuickTime 7 Pro will automatically create an .m4v file containing H.264 video and AAC audio that is optimized for iPod. iPod can play the following video formats:
H.264 video
File formats: .m4v, .mp4 and .mov
Video: Up to 768 Kbps, 320 x 240 pixels, 30 frames per second, Baseline Profile up to Level 1.3
Audio: AAC-LC up to 160 Kbps, 48 KHz, stereo audio
MPEG-4 video
File formats: .m4v, .mp4 and .mov
Video: Up to 2.5 Mbps, 480 x 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile
Audio: AAC-LC up to 160 Kbps, 48 KHz, stereo audio
I guess this tells us that H.264 is the preferred format because of its lower bitrate, but still high quality (I could be wrong, depends on implementation in iPod). But that you can use Type 1 / Simple Profile also. At the cost of larger files.

The result is then that the MP4 plug-in for Ulead cannot make Type10/H.264. But you probably will be able to make the Type 1 / Simple Profile. I would have to test to be absolutely sure.

Not more time now. Will try to put down a separate post later about feature list of plug-in for others. Since the official material on the web is really lousy. At least ripped me of my dollars. No support for H.264 :(

@Uryel

No problem understanding that problem. It's a little cryptic navigation as of now. But here is a direct link:

same activation code problem

just so people will know, I'm getting the invalid activation code problem too. Also, it's pretty disappointing that they would release this without doing h.264.
