Trial version worked, paid version quirky

Post by Xanth »

Hello, I downloaded the trial version of MovieFactory 4, and successfully converted about 15 (Digital 8) home movies to DVD. So successfully that I ordered the full version.

Now I am having some problems!

1) When I go to create chapters, the video doesn't show on the screen like it did before. I can get MF to "auto create" the chapters, but no longer have the ability to scroll through video files myself.

2) After mucking through the chapter creation problem, the preview player function no longer seems to work!

3) Several times when I got to the burning process, I got a message saying that my burner was busy. Half an hour or more lost each time for the multiplexing, finalizing stuff.

Anyone else had similar problems?

Thanks

make sure you download the latest patch - it fixes a lot of bugs.

Problems #1 & #2 sound like a corrupted source-video file. Maybe something bad happened during capture this time.

Problem #3 could be caused by conflicting burning software. Try un-checking Create Disc, and check Create Folders. This will skip the burning step, and "burn" the DVD to your hard disc. If that works, you can copy the folders to the acutal DVD using your regular burning software (Nero, Roxio, etc.), ...which is probably causing the conflict.

Thanks for the tips guys. I had tried downloading the update pack, but decided that I must have had a bad installation, so I reinstalled the software. I went ahead and installed the update pack, and now I can't access the edit chapter menu AT ALL. It just stays grayed out, even though I have the add chapters? button checked.

This isn't due to a corrupt file, b/c I have captured multiple videos, I just can't manipulate chapters. And the preview function still doesn't work. I did get the burner to operate, and suspect that my troubles burning may have been due to a faulty DVD+R disk.

The program is simple and there seems to be few functions that I can turn/click on or off to allow editing. These problems are extremely aggravating in light of the fact that the preview version gave me 0 problems!

Write to tech support and perform a search in the
MF forum for "trial".

A few others have reported the same errors.
Seems to be remnants of the trial version affect
the full version.

You probably have to remove ALL references to MF
full & trial from the harddisk & the registry.

Search the forum. People have posted the instructions tech
support sent them to perform and it fixed the problems.
