Audio filters not recognised by Video Editor

Post by David_S »

I am using MediaStudio Pro 8 and find it much easier to use than MS7 and more stable. One problem though, I can't get the audio filters to be recognised by Video Editor. The audio filters appear in the Production Library - amplify, echo etc. I can drag them to an audio clip OK and a little blue icon appears but the Effects Manager shows it as an "unknown filter" and I can't access any options.

If I right click an audio clip then "audio filter" I get a message "Video Editor cannot recognize this filter". Similarly if I access via Menu-clip-Audio Filter. The audio filter dialogue box does not list available filters under "all" even though they appear in Production Library.

If I drag a production library audio filter to a clip it appears in the Audio Filter Dialogue Box as an "unknown filter" and "options" is grayed out. The "Remove" button is operative though.

Am I missing something obvious? Any suggestions would be welcome - I haven't yet tried an uninstall/reinstall as all other functions of MS8 I have accessed so far work fine (I have only just got round to trying the audio filters) and I don't like disturbing a working program unnecessarily.

Audio problem resolved

Post by David_S »

Well I tried an uninstall/reinstall and things seem to be working OK now.

I've got the same problem with the audio filters present but "unknown" in Effect Manager.
That seems to be a conflict between MSP7 and MSP8.

I've tried to correct it by using "repair MSP8" from the CD-rom : got an error message 'error registry' when opening MSP8. This is not a fatal error, MSP8 runs after this message, but I don't like.
I uninstalled and reinstalled MSP8 : audio filters are OK.

The result of this is that there are 2 problems : with audio filters and with the option "repair MSP8"
Hope Ulead will correct this with the next patch.

Out of curiosity, how many got this error in MSP8 AFTER opening an earlier version of MSP (like msp 7.3)?

Further update

Post by David_S »

The problem could well be related to co-existence with MSP7.3 or other versions. For other reasons (see my post on saving projects) I carried out yet another uninstall/reisnstall. This time I uninstalled MSP7.3 and only installed MSP8. I also defragmented the drive thoroughly before the re-install and cleaned up the registry. I have not had the audio filter problem since and MSP8 is now more stable.

Hi George,

I do (or did at the time) have version 7.3 installed. And it's likely that I ran it just once after installing 8.
I can't say whether the filter problem was absent before this though as I didn't use any until later.

Addendum: I can now confirm that uninstalling and reinstalling MSP8 fixes the problem for me.

I had the same problem. There is a conflict with MSP7. Process explorer from sysinternals showed, that MSP8 used some DLLs from the audio plugins out of the path from MSP7. After deinstall / reinstall this was no longer the case and now MSP7 uses one DLL from MSP8, which works fine.

:D :D :D I did not even know I had this problem until I read this post :D :D :D

I wondered why all the VST audio plug ins I downloaded didnt show up or work. It was only after reading this post I checked the default audio filters and discovered I too had this problem.
To avoid losing Video Paint and CG Infinity I renamed
C:\Program Files\Ulead Systems\Ulead MediaStudio Pro 7.0
to
C:\Program Files\Ulead Systems\Ulead MediaStudio Pro 7.0x
Then I uninstalled and re-installed MSP8 - including the Hot fix, extra content etc. restored my custom settings

I also discoverd a way to preserve my Hot Keys for my customised window settings.
They are kept in the registery at:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Ulead Systems\Ulead MediaStudio Pro\8.0\Video Editor\UiConfig]
"LAYOUT_HOTKEY_ALT_1"="Standard (1024x768)"
"LAYOUT_HOTKEY_ALT_2"="Zoom to Effects Manager"
etc.
I now find I have dozens of audio filters :D :D :D
Finally renamed
C:\Program Files\Ulead Systems\Ulead MediaStudio Pro 7.0x
back to
C:\Program Files\Ulead Systems\Ulead MediaStudio Pro 7.0
and Video Paint plus CG Infinity still work.

I had everything working OK in MSP8 and just opened MSP7 to investigate a a query someone else posted.

Upon returning to MSP8 the audio filters again do not work.
Tried a re-boot and also tried renaming the MSP7 directory (again - I had already re-named it)

Just spent the past half hour hunting through the Registry and the various sub-directories looking for any clues to what has changed.

As far as I remember I didnt dedect significant changes in the registry. Hope this helps you.
I cannot explain why tree times installing the same product gets different files than two times installing it. Not a very dederministic installer. Seems to depend on something like the moon. :)

Boy O Boy was this a tough one.
It took me about 4 hours but I was determined to sort this one out.
The cure is a two part registry fix. The first part is easy - create a registry file with Windows Notepad as follows:-

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{BD606F29-5B18-4FAF-9853-7F02CCE1E853}]
@="EIO Manager"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{BD606F29-5B18-4FAF-9853-7F02CCE1E853}\InprocServer32]
@="C:\\Program Files\\Ulead Systems\\Ulead MediaStudio Pro 8.0\\EIO\\EIO.DLL"
"ThreadingModel"="Both"

Now execute the registry file.
Step 2 is a bit more difficult because I am certain the entries in the Windows Registry will be different from one machine to another.

Navigate to
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{1C3AD23B-6426-5A94-735D-288C908CA7B2}\InProcServer32]

You will see an entry in the "Data" Column pointing to
C:\Program Files\Ulead Systems\Ulead MediaStudio Pro 7.0\u32cfg.dll

You need to change the entry to
C:\Program Files\Ulead Systems\Ulead MediaStudio Pro 8.0\u32cfg.dll

Image

Regards, Thanks Helge for your info.

Hi there, have followed your instructions, copied and pasted, run the file and changed the registry entries,
all checked, but no audio filters show up, looks like a reinstall :( , every else fine.
[Restore backup, registry, no change no audio filters, would of thought they would be back
but error message when trying to use]
Phil

Update - reinstall, working audio filters :D

Does anyone know if this would also cause the auto audio crossfade feature to not work? Even though the box is checked in preferences my audio files will not longer automatically crossfade when overlapped.
