What are the limitations of MSP 8 vs the high end software?

Post by RichWells »

The ULead website describes the following feature of MSP 8:

"Even if MediaStudio Pro is not your primary NLE, Smart
Compositor can come to the rescue for those quickturnaround
jobs that still have to look really high-end.
Compose your sequence, then simply render it as a video
clip for use in your main NLE."

That makes me wonder why one would feel the need to transfer it to a higher level NLE? What additional benefits would the higher-end software bring ?? What is the difference in the "look"? thanks.

This is sales blurb to try to persuade users of other software to buy MSP, as well. All the so-called "Pro" NLE proggies in the <$1,000 range are more or less born equal and some are more equal than others, with their advantages, disadvantages and peculiarities. SC happens to be one of the numerous features where MSP is streets ahead of the others, and even, possibly, of some of the systems in the >$1,000 or even >$10,000 range.

And there is very little difference in the "look" between the cheapest entry-level and the most expensive fully pro softwares, except that the higher up the category, the more features you have. MSP8 possibly has more features (but not necessarily all the same ones) than its immediate rivals in the light "pro" or "prosumer" class at less than $1,000 and is easier to use.

i'm just wondering though when more Smart Compositor Templates/clips will be released or sold. I mean we can edit the current Smart Compositor clips with our own pictures and video, but if you work on enough of them, you'll soon want something new to work with. I figured, if you have to go ahead and make your own from scratch, then Smart Compositor is no longer an advantage in MSP8 over the other NLEs.

MSP8 has been great to work with and right now i'm at a point wondering if I should give the another 'pro' NLE a shot.

It has been mentioned that SC will have a template generator. When that happens, you can expect some 3rd party templates to become available.

I must admit that I fail to see the correlation between the current availability of SC templates and dissatisfaction with MSP8, when competitive software has no SC

other NLE's

Post by krwzmann »

Not really a comparison but interesting to see what some of the other NLE's look like in action (sort of). So far there are two pages of posts and some of the posts have pictures of what's currently on their timeline. There's alot of Sony Vegas and Premiere Pro users. So far, i'm the only one to post Media Studio Pro. Had to represent! hehe

i just posted a q about smart composition feature, and i am a premiere pro user doing it the "hard way." I saw this feature in the manual of mediastudio and though oh cool until i realized custom templates are not supported yet. as i have not played around with ms, i think it's as easy as using a video track as a picture frame (set a transparent area in a png still image) and then under that track put your action video. Stretch the still picture frame out to the lenght of your clip - can't you do that in MS?

but perhaps smart composition is more then this...i won't know till later today when i get my new editing bay, with Ulead loaded....
