Capture DVD in 16:9 Aspect Ratio

Post by Iceaxeman »

I have my camcorder set to record 16:9. It doesn't seem MovieFactory 4 captures in 16:9? Is this true? I went and adjusted my project to one of the 16:9 templates. I must be missing something.

It does, I just bought my 16:9 camcorder and checked 8)
It's just the capture preview window that doesn't show 16:9 ratio but if your template says 16:9 it captures in panoramic mode indeed

I have the Sony DCR-DVD300 Camcorder. It uses miniDVD media, so I don't actually use the capture process in MF4. I copy my source DVD's to my harddrive (for speed and archiving) and then I use the "Import DVD" button.

I've had problems getting MF4 to recognize 16:9 too. When I import chapters or titles, the info button says "16:9" but then when it puts items on the timeline they're 4:3 and squished.

If I ignore it, I end up with a 16:9 DVD with my content squished and shown in a square with black bars. Ugly.

I found an easy, while not elegant solution. I leave my project template in 4:3, and I burn to "folders" for the final output.

Then I use the freeware tool IFOEditor.exe and just a few clicks I change the 4:3 to 16:9. Then I just burn the folder to a DVD with Nero.

It works. I wish Ulead would fix this though.
