Ctrl+Shift+S Crashes PI11 ! - Proof of Concept

Post by OmenLW »

Before we start this, close PI 11 and dont open anything else in PI 11... just follow these steps closely...

ok...want to reproduce this?

here is how it happens to me...

1. Open PI 11 and start a new file...
i chose "Standard > 640 x 350 Pixels" - Custom color background - white

2. select the text tool... type any text...
i chose to type "Thanks a lot"
font: arial, size: 24

3. go back and click the pick tool to get out of text mode and then convert that text to an image.... Object > Convert > From Text/Path to Image

4. now that your text is converted to an editable image, we will use our little friend "quick controls" to change the color and brightness a bit...

Image

10 times on -RED
10 times on +Green
10 times on +Blue
5 times on -bright
5 times on -contrast

go ahead and tap the colors around and change the brightness and color of your text...

5. ok....now that your text is now an image with altered color, lets try to use the keyboard shortcut to "Save As"

hit Ctrl+Shift+S

and BAM, it closes without warning and no saved file....

Thanks a lot

if that doesnt work, try clicking new, and see if u can add text...or just try it again... 9 out of 10 times it closes on me or gives me a fatal error when i start another text project

i dont see how a product that costs $99 made it to the store with all of these bugs... i mean they arent small bugs like typos, they are serious bugs that could cause someone to toss their entire PC out the window because they spent "xx hours" working on a project just to have it close on you when you try to save it...not to mention the post above with a list of known issues...

well, here is one more bug to add to the infestation

Sorry, I cannot.

I had to merge the text/image, otherwise I would have created a *.ufo file,
Saved as *.jpg file (Demo Test), closed and reopened. Used "Print Screen," pasted as New Image, resized to 640x480 (from 800x600), resaved. Posted to my PhotoAlbum site, and Voila!

I've been using the TBYB version of PI 11 for almost a month.

Have had no problems with anything in PI 11, BUT, I will not be upgrading because there are too many "improvements" which are completely and totally foreign to my way of working with previous versions of PI.

These include that dumb Document window that runs along the bottom: I use the "Window Dropdown" in the previous versions and, I believe, in every other Windows' program I have. The other major annoyance is editing and resizing of Text. No Brainer operation in earlier versions. A REAL PAIN to do in PI 11.

Maybe I'm getting old, but if I cannot work the way I way I'm used to working, then all the improvements in the world will mean frustration which I don't need.

PI 10 ROCKS (IMHO). Maybe PI 12 will change my mind.

Sorry, unable to reproduce this error. Tried several times but each and every time the program behaved as expected.

The tests were done on a SAMSUNG X50 laptop with XP Pro SP2, ATI Mobilty Radeon X700 graphics card, 512 MB DDR2 RAM and Centrino CPU 1.73 GHz

it may be an isolated problem like the "tools sticking" problem...

i will try it again right now and see if it still crashes me...

hell, im even thinking about making a video for bugs that are isolated so the developers can see whats going on...

===

its still doing it...

i created an image, added text, rightclick the text, choose convert from path to image, went straight to my quick controls, click them a bunch of times, took my pointer back over my text and hit ctrl+shift+s and crash...

I have tried several times, also on another machine, but cannot reconstruct this. Do you have, by any chance, set up XP short cuts, where Ctrl+Shift+s might shut down an application?

What happens when you just open a new canvas in PI and hit Ctrl+Shift+s?

if i do not use my quick controls in Pi11 i can "save as" a.k.a. ctrl+shift+s as normal...

ONLY if i use the quick controls to adjust color, brightness etc..
my PI 11 crashes when i do the shortcut to "save as"

and no, my XP does now have ANY keyboard shortcuts mapped out...

remember, i used the quick color controls on an image...

How do you get to the 'quick controls'. I was going to try to reproduce the problem you describe, but I can't for the life of me can't find these controls.

File>>Preferences>>General
(or F6)

Then click Tools (in your preferences box thingy)

Then put a tick in "Show Quick Color Control Panel"
