Problem installing VideoStudio 9.0 from Download

Post by gmthomps »

I just purchased the Upgrade Version of VideoStudio 9.0 and downloaded it. I cannot get it to install. I run the exe file and it begins the install process but I see the following strange behaviors:
1. The License Agreement is blank
2. I prompts me to "Please insert disk 1 that contains the file layout.bin"

I cannot get past the "insert disk 1" problem. It lets me browse to find it but I cannot find the file anywhere. I looked in the FAQ and the only thing I see is to cleanout the temp directories under "My Documents". I tried this but it still won't install.

I also tried to get tech support, but I can't submit a ticket until I register, and I can't register until I can get the serial number which I can't get until after the installation is complete!! :?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

P.S. I'm installing on Windows XP Professional system.

That is a strange one. Are you sure you downloaded the program installer and not the extras? What is the downloaded file's name?

Being an upgrade, which version do you have installed on your system?

On second thoughts, being an XP system, are you logged on with administrator rights?

It was the link sent to me in email. The file name is uvs9_upg_na__e__RTM.exe

My previous version is VideoStudie 6.0 SE. I am also installing with my account which as Administrative privledges.

You may have a corrupted download. Usually, the download links are good for a couple of days. Try to download again. If that's not possible, contact the company you purchased from, Element5? for a new download link.

What are your system spec's?

I tried downloading again...same results.

I have a P4 2.4 GHz w/512 MB Ram and plenty of disk space.

When you compare the 2 downloads, same file name, same file size?

Did you do a complete uninstall and removed all things VS9 from the registry prior to the new install? Did you also empty out the temp files?

File name and size matches exactly...I cleaned out the temp dirs. I didn't mess with the Registry (I generally don't like to touch it unless I know exactly what to change). Nothing appears to have been installed anywhere else (the target dir was never even created).

This was very strange. I installed the exe on another computer also running Win XP Pro. It installed fine so that rules out a corrupt download.

Just for kicks, I created a new user account with Admin priveledges and tried the install again. It worked fine!! I don't have a clue why a new account would make it work but it did.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Had the same problem. Turns out that it was a problem with InstallShield. The link below is a procedure to get around this. It worked like a charm for me.

Good Luck
