Inserting images with transparent backgrounds

Post by Elmo »

Help!

I create my image (a thought baloon to place over someones head) in PaintShop Pro 7, set the transparency and save the file as a .png file.

This is where I get confused. Do I insert the image as an "image" onto the overlay track or do I inseret the image as an object (from the decoration menu)? Whats the difference between the two?

Anyways, when I do it either way the image doesn't have a transparent background....arrggg. I've tried numerous times but no go.

Thoughts?

I don't think it makes any difference which way you insert it - either from the Image pane or the Decoration pane.

The problem is almost certainly with your original file - although you have a .png file which you set to transparent the image must have a 32-bit alpha channel - I don't use PaintShop pro so I don't know if it can do that - I would have thought it WOULD.

You can do it in Ulead Photo Impact or you could create a .tga file in Ulead Cool 3D - the just drag and drop them in the overlay track - see the first page of my website (see below) where you can see I've done the reverse effect - that is have a transparent centre with a frame around it but I could just as easily done it the other way round - a solid object floating.

Doesn't D14.png in the Object ' library give you the sort of effect you want - just for experiment try dragging that one down into your overlay track with a video in the top track - Don't forget to change to PROJECT playback mode to see the effect.

Wierd. Opened the png file I created in PaintShop Pro and it definately has a transparent background.

Does any one have a URI of a tutroial on how to insert images onto the overlay track or provide me a step by step? Just want to make sure I'm not missing anything.

Brian, I currently have the demo version of Video studio, is that why I dont have D14.png in the object library? I only have D01.png (an up arrow).

Got it to work :-) It was that te background color on save. Anyways, now that Ive created one, I inserted it and played the clip. The image becomes quite pixelated. Any tips?

What is the resolution of your .png image - you may get a better image in UVS by creating a larger .png image (pixel wise) and shrink it down using the 'Motion and Filter' tab on the 'Overlay' screen
