File size too big!

Post by captainmk »

How can I reduce the file size of my exported video files. I am trying to make some game videos, but I end up not being able to share them due to the heavy file sizes. A ten minute video takes up 300mb of space! How can I incorporate DIVX into these files? And what is the best quality video with the least file size?

Hi Captainmilk :)

300Mb for a ten minute clip is not that large. I just finished a 3min clip, rendered NTSC-DVD (mpeg2) and the file size is 224Mb. So in comparison 10 minutes would be at least 600Mb.

When you say exported, are you creating a video file (Share>Create Video File) or using the Export option? What format are you "exporting" to?

Do you have the DivX Create Bundle and DivX Codec? If so then you can use it to convert your file to DivX format. I'm not real sure on this one. I have the DivX Create, however it doesn't show up in my Compression options when I go to create a video file. Someone else will probably jump in here on that.

Thanks for the info. And I was just mildly guessing lol. Anyway It's still too big. I do have the DivX bundle and the codec, but I don't know how to carry out the compression. And yes, but 'exporting' I do mean Saving as a video file. I am currently saving as a MPEG due to the fact that it's the only format that I can use the correct resolutions with. Can someone please help?

Can Tempenc or Gordian Knotconvert MPEG2 files to DivX ?

If so I would suggest using UVS to create MPEG2 files from your video projects and then use an other utility such as Gordian Knot to convert the file to DivX.

I have never used these tools myself, so I cannot say how effective they maybe, please let us know if it works out for you.

The DivX Create Bundle has a simple converter for turning mpeg-2s into DivX. That's what the 'Create' in the title relates to! :P
