You might try clicking on the Restore button, located in the top right, just like the Windows Restore button. The main window of Production Studio shrinks down, while the palettes, including the EZ Palette remain, appearing to be floating outside of the program...

Steve,
There aren't any menu/preferences options for that. However what I've found is that once you have your layout, then it remembers that layout. Every time I open 3DPS, the layout is the same, with the exception of the Object Manager. I don't know why it refuses to allow it to stay open. Most of the Palettes are resizable, again except the Object Manager. You can double click on the top bar of the Object Manager and it will minimize, where the others will not.
I just moved all of my palettes around, opened and closed 3DPS several times and confirmed that it does remember your layout..

Ron,
Almost.... However I've found what I need now.
If I set up the screen layout the way I want it the settings are stored here:
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Ulead COOL 3D Production Studio\1.0\u3dedit4.INI
If I use the "Rearrange Layout" from Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced it resets my custom layout to factory settings. Also If you close then re-open C3DPS as you say everything is in place with the exception of the preview screen.
I can preserve the settings (apart from the preview screen) by making a copy of the above file and simply restoring the back up in place of the original.
A quicki method of doing this is to create a batch file using a piece of software called batchrun

In case you are wondering what I am up to, I was setting my display so that it looked like the one in the VASST training video. I bought a copy after reading your post

Just started working my way through it, looks like it was worth every penny, I've been meaning to get to grips with this one for a long time.

Do I feel dumb..
I've been using this program for almost 2 years, and I forgot about the Beginners, Intermediate and Advance Layout settings...
Thanks for the tip on the *.ini file. I also downloaded the batch file program and will give it whirl.
Yes, 3DPS is a real neat program to run. VASST's DVD really let's you in on what the program can do. The only down side to it ( or any other 3D app) is the demand on the pc. It takes forever to render a file of any length. I think Ulead could do better on their rendering engine.
