Problems installing on WinXP64

Post by sharris »

I just upgraded my system to a dual core x64 machine with WinXP64 and am reinstalling all my software. I have MSP 6.5 upgrade but am required to install MSP 5.0 before I can do the upgrade. When I try to install MSP 5.0 I get an error that says the setup file is valid but it is for another machine type.

I need to know:

1. is there a way to install MSP 5.0 on WinXP64 or
2. is there a way to get around the 5.0 requirement to be installed and have the validation come from the CD directly

Thanks,
Devil

If you put the old installation disk into the CD drive, and you point it in that direction when it asks you where it is installed, that should work.

Alternatively, you could try the Program Compatibility Wizard in Win Accessories onto the CD Setup.exe file.

I tried both of those things. The MSP 6.5 install says that if you have version 5.0 you must install it on your system. It does not recognize the 5.0 CD. I tried all of the compatibility modes and none of them worked either.

Must be a feature of Win64. I suggest you try installing a straight Win XP in dual-boot mode. You won't lose any performance.

Actually, when I install in Win32 6.5 it gives me the same message about "if this is a 5.x version then you must install it first". I have a dual boot setup but I was really hoping to run MSP on X64. I tried copying the registery settings from the Win32 install to the X64 install but that did not help either. Looks like I am stuck with a dual boot situation.

Thaks for the suggestions.
