Going mad!!!!!!!!!!

i going mental and mad. ive searched the site but cant find anything to help-so sorry if ive missed anything
im trying to capture video from my vcr using the usb lead and scart with red white and yellow phono connection. when i get a preview image its black and white. ive chaged ntsc to pal and its stll b & w. however if i plug my scart connecter in to a dvd player the image is in colour!!!!!
WHY!!????!!
