Frame grabs

Post by grant9954 »

Is there a recommended procedure or settings for getting the best quality
frame grabs?
Will the quality be better if I capture as .AVI as opposed to MPEG2?
I know how to save them, but just wondering about the settings.

Thanks

I'm by far no expert or pro in this, however I look at this from a logical point.

If you meant by frame grabs, to save as image, then the avi format should provide better quality then mpeg. DV-AVI while is compressed, it is not as compressed as the MPEG. So to maintain the best quality, certainly an uncompressed or one that is least compressed would yeild the best results...

I'm sure others more experienced will add to or correct me on this...

I agree, that would seem logical, but I'm wondering (and I am also no expert) does the settings of say "lower field first" "frame' de-interlacing etc. make any difference to the quality of the still?
