PI 11 will not run

Post by ve1trb »

I have PI 6 installed and purchased a physical version of PI 11 UPGRADE and installed it. The install appeared to work fine.
The first time I ran PI 11 a screen cam up with 2 options, don't remember what they were but I chose the second one, then the PI 11 splash screen came up and I could see on the status bar it was doing something for a while. After a while it stopped on "initializing u32lco.fio", it sat there for a while, then the splash screen went away and nothing happened after that. I reboted the computer and the same thing. Tried running the "fix problems" thing on the cd and still no change.
I just did a scan of my HDD and the registry and there is no such file or entry anywhere on my computer. Is there supposed to be?
I also uninstalled the software, removed all other files that were not removed after the uninstall, and reinstalled the sw again, still no luck. Win XP came up with the error report dialogue and I sent that to.

I'm running a P111 1 GB, 758 MB RAM, Win XP SP2, Nvidea GE force 5600 w 256 MB RAM.

It's u32Ico.fio (i, not l). Try moving the file (it's in installdir\fio directory) to another location and restarting PI.
It's only an I/O filter for icon format operations. Do you have any software someway related to operating icons?

OK so that's why I couldn't find it. Thanks very much, and your explanation is understandable. I'll have to try that tomorrow.
I'm not sure what you mean by operating icons software, can you give me an example? But I don't think I do.
Thanks again, I'll let you know how I make out tomorrow.

I meant software like Stardock's desktop enhancers, something that fe. makes your desktop icons animated or text under icons colored.

You may also try to uninstall PI6 to make sure it doesn't interfere.

no I don't have any software like that.
I followed your instructions after reinstalling the sw and still no luck. It then stopped at u32Bmp.fio, so I removed that file and it then stopped at u32Wmf.fio, so I removed that file and it then stoped at u32Ufo.fio... ( I could go on but I think you see where Im going here).
I also followed the instructions from Ulead to clean up the temp and pi 11 directories prior to reinstalling. Still no luck
The odd thing about this is it seems to go smooth and fast up to the point where it stops loading.
Any other suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
After spending $94.00 Cdn for the software, shipping etc I'd hate like heck to not be able to use the program.

Did it start with all .fio files moved to another directory?

Do you try with Windows Administrator permissions?

Other ideas:
- your anti-virus software interferes
- you may get Filemon tool from www.sysinternals.com and check what's going on when the program loads. You may also get Regmon as well, to check for registry accesses.

Have you tried to contact support (the phone, not the email one)? They probably won't give you any usable solution, but at least they'll know.

Yes it did start but also failed

Yes

Completely disabled with all modules shut down

Good idea regarding filemon, I've heard of that before but never really considered it.

I'll have to try that some time, but I'm working with Peter via email at tech support. So far no luck but lots of good ideas.
Will keep posting here until I get a solution, and will pass on whatever works too.

Update on my PI 11 installation.
My present status is still no go! At present, I have completely purged everything from my computer that had anything at all to do with Ulead and PI both 6 and 11. I then rebooted and shut down my anti virus, then installed PI 11 by itself and did not associate any files at all to it, as was suggested by another user. All info has been passed to the tech suport at Ulead via email. I have also sent error reports to Microisoft. My PI 11 is still dead in the water.
I suspect tech support is still trying to figure out what the problem is with the software. I'm just glad to see I'm not the only one having this problem, and hopefully they will be able to figure out a solution soon.

Update.... So far so good. I ended up getting a new computer after my better half twisted my rubber arm. It took two tries to get it installed and working properly :D . Hopefully this will end all my problems, mind you, I really haven't done a lot on it so far. Will see what happens later on.
