audio out of sync with video
I'm using VS9 and captured the video via usb2 to mpeg2. Edited and all ok. When I create the disc, the sound is out of sync with the video. can anyone please help me? Here are my project settings.
MPEG files
24 Bits, 720 x 576, 25 fps
Lower Field First
(DVD-PAL), 4:3
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 8000 kbps)
Audio data rate: 448 kbps
Dolby Digital Audio, 48 KHz, 2/0(L,R)
I am using a Athlon XP 2800, 512MB RAM with 30GB free space.
MANY thanks in advance!

No comfort to you, but VS9 has been remarkably free of A/V sync problems. Your properties look great. If you have maintained these properties throuout the process, you should not be having this problem.
I assume that you captured using some sort of external capture device because of your USB2 connection. What device did you use?
Does the project video file show perfect A/V sync?

A common reason for faults in the burning process is following the wrong procedure. The recommended procedure is outlined in the top sticky post on this Board. To summarise, you should NOT be going straight from the project in the timeline to the burn module (Share > Create Disc > DVD) which it sounds as though you are doing. INSTEAD, you should use the preferred method which is to first produce a DVD-compatible mpeg-2 file (Share > Create Video File > DVD). Once you have this file, close your current project, and then click Share > Create Disc > DVD. This will open the burning module. Insert your DVD-compatible file(s). Make sure you click on ‘Do not convert compliant mpeg-2 files’ in the little cog-wheel icon in the bottom left of the burning module screen. Add your menu, chapters etc, and burn either the DVD itself or produce a disc image or Video_TS folder if you intend to burn more copies later.
If you are not using this method, then the wide experience here is that you are asking for trouble.

jchunter, I used the docking device that came with the sony video camera. i guess ideally i should use firewire.
ken, I carefully followed the recommended procedure in the top sticky post - that is how I got my project settings. I created the mpeg2 video file and that was when the audio was out of sync.
Thanks for your all your help.

The properties i gave before was to create the mpeg2 video file. My PROJECT properties are as follows.
NTSC drop frame (29.97 fps)
MPEG files
24 Bits, 640 x 480, 29.97 fps
Lower Field First
(MPEG-2), 4:3
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 7000 kbps)
Audio data rate: 224 kbps
MPEG audio layer 2, 48 KHz, Stereo
I know that it is recommended that I use 720x480 but that wasn't an option for me. The highest was 640-480. I don't know why. I did set the Video data rate to 8000 but then it automatically changed itself to 7000, as if 8000 was not allowable.
I did set the the preferences to PAL as I am in Australia. Why does it still say "NTSC" drop frame?
Thank you in advance - I'm a newbie but i'll keep on trying to work this out.

You might first want to check your Project Properties and do an edit to see if you are given any PAL choices instead of the NTSC ones you have given. Certainly if you are capturing from a PAL camera but using NTSC settings, there may be problems. If, on the other hand, you are at the Share > Create Video File stage, you should be offered a variety of choices for templates, and in mine, these include both PAL and NTSC DVD. I choose PAL DVD. See if you have a similar array of choices.
Failing any joy there, I would suggest you do a total uninstall of VS and then reinstall it and try to set it to PAL as default. When I install any Ulead product, and I have a number of them, I *always* select Australia as my country when asked, BUT then I also move to the second part of that screen and select PAL as the TV system as well. That way I have never had problems in having these products install with the default set to PAL.
I would also suggest that in future you do seriously consider capturing with Firewire rather than the USB docking station. Then do you edits in DV format, then produce your (PAL) DVD-compatible mpeg-2 then burn this disc...

I am using Intel Pentium P4 2.6GHz CPU on 2theMax 4PDA2Plus Motherboard, 1 GB RAM, 2 x 120GB ATA HDD (7200 rpm, 8 MB cache) and 2 x SATA 200 GB HDD (7200 rpm, 8 MB cache) configurated as RAID 1, 1 x NEC DVD RW ND 3520A (Dual Layer +R/-R DVD writer), 1 x NEC DVD ND 1100A. The operating system is MS Windows XP Professional with SP2 installed.
While I use VedioStudio 8 to capture my SONY Network Handycam video (MicroMV format) from FireWire, I also got sound sync problem. So I gave up and am now using an external TV/Video capture box Compro Technology's VideoMate Live (U1500) using USB 2.0 interface. The format of the captured video is complant with MPEG 2 video, i.e. 720 x 576, 25 fps, MPEG 2, 4000/6000/8000 kbps, frame/field based, MPEG-Level 2 Audio etc. And I have no sound syn problem now.
For video capture, I rekon external device is better than PCI device as PCI would rely on the processing power of your CPU.

You said: " Maybe I'll capture it as an AVI although that is not suggested in the top sticky post of the recommended procedure." Well, I am sorry, but that is one of the central recommendations in the recommended procedure: to capture in DV format which is, of course, a special, compressed variety of AVI developed by Microsoft to exactly copy the quality of your original digital video tape...
