How do i compress files to fit 4.7GB DVD?

Post by And Rew »

I want to fit 6 clips of @ 350MB onto 4.7GB disc with menu but when i go to add these clips to MF4 it says it can only fit 2 to a disc.

I have a dvd someone else has done where there is a menu and 6 clips of 45 minutes each - how can i get MF4 to fit all these to one disc?Or do i have to do this elsewhere on hard drive, or do i have to use another program altogether?

the size of your DVD is tied to the bitrate defined in the DVD template you are using, more a question of duration in minutes than size in MB.

What is the total length of your clips?

total length.......not a personal question

total length works out to about 260 - 270 mins

In the lower left corner of the burn screen is an icon showing a disk with a clamp around it. That provides the facility to fit your project onto one disk. Though, it would seem that the amount that you wish to fit on one disk will result in significant degradation in quality.

You can certainly reduce good quality originals to about 50-60% and still have a watchable result.

The standard quality settings for DVDs allow about two hours video on a 4.7GB disk. You want to squeeze in more than 4 hours.

As said by jcc that will mean drastically reduce the quality of the output.

If your original is from TV (VHS) you could use 352*288 setting and use 2000kbps with Dolby audio at 224 but I doubt you will like the result...

I ve found that if i export my file (on the add clip page) as LP 4:3 it compresses the file down so that six - 42 minute clips fit on one 4.7gb disc. its the third small button on near where the clip appears. Hope that helps someone
