VS8 - what is best way to build a 1 hr DVD with many edits

Post by kilvroch »

Question - is it better practise to make a large DVD-sized project or combine several smaller ones onto a DVD?

I have VS8.
My project is editing dog show videos and outputting DVD master. The DVD will then be copied to VHS video tapes.
Input is mini DV tape from two cameras (ie two views of the show ring and dogs)

I have painstakingly built a 1hr storyboard of video clips. for each dog in each class, there are usually 4 edit points.... making over 120 clips in a 1 hour video.... and only after adding the voice over, titles, etc ... burned a DVD... discovered some of the captured video was trash and must re-capture.

Have you got any suggestions for easing the pain of re-editing the clips?

Editing the project in smaller pieces is probably easier and less likely to cause problems. Output the video to an MPEG2 file that is compliant with the DVD project template you intend to use to burn the disk, and no time-consuming conversion will be necessary.

If you already have a DVD and find that sections of it aren't usable, you can insert all of the video from the DVD using the "Insert DVD/DVD-VR" option -- it will load all of the chapters on the DVD (though not the menu structure, backgrounds, music etc.), and then you can replace just the sections of video that aren't usable.
