DVD Menu Plug-in 2.0 problem
Won't install - Says:
"Installer cannot find Ulead Photoimpact on your machine. It will require a previously installed version of at least one of the following applications:
Ulead PhotoImpact 8 Full
Ulead PhotoImpact XL Full"
I've downloaded the latest patch for DVD Workshop, and there doesn't appear to be any patches for PI 11.....
Any idea why this isn't working?

What version of DVD WS do you have? Did you notice this:
You need to have the full version of PI 8 or PI XL installed with DVD WS before you can install this plug-in.NOTEs:
1. For PhotoImpact versions 8 and XL, you must download and install the latest patch based on your version. You must also download and install the latest DVD Workshop patch before installing the Menu Plug-in.
2. The DVD Menu Plug-in is not available for PhotoImpact SE versions. PhotoImpact SE users must upgrade to the full version before they can install the free DVD Menu Plug-in.

well yes, I didn't have the latest patch for DVDWS because I don't do DLT, but I did download it and install it. it says this on the webpage:
NOTE: The PhotoImpact® Menu Plug-in is only supported by PhotoImpact® 8 and later versions. You must also download and install the latest PhotoImpact patch and the latest DVD Workshop patch before installing the Menu Plug-in.
8 and later, well I have 11, 11 is later than 8, yet, no workee

PI 11 is very recent and your DVD WS built may not have any functionality built in to accept PI 11. Maybe that's why you need the latest patch for WS.
You said so yourself, the error message you get is to the effect that you need to have PI 8 or XL installed. That indicates to me that it will not work with PI 11, never mind what the web site says. After all, it did say the same thing last year, well before PI 11 was released. I'm also not sure if, in fact, this plug-in even works with PI 10.
Maybe another user of WS could enlighten us to that effect?

PI XL is the version that came out in between PI 8 and Pi 10. Beats me why they didn't call it PI 9sdsumike619 wrote:well crap! So now I have to get an old verion of the program to use this plugin? that seems kind of lame.. why would they say "or later" if it doesn't even work with later versions.....
So what is PI XL ????
When they started to say Pi 8 or later we didn't even have PI 10 released. Maybe a future PI 11 patch is going to address this.

Ulead notified of DVD menu installation problem by telephone
I called ULEAD by phone and talked to a tech support person. Said he would look into the problem and notify me via email.
Just though I'd pass this along.

I haven't got Photo Impact 11 (yet) but...
As it is a very new and recent release I think you will find that version 11 doesn't need patching - it should be built in. Obviously earlier versions would need the patch. Have you checked it to see if it has the functionality
Similarly DVDWS2 is a few years old now and so again would require a patch.
Please view page 2 of the following
http://www.ulead.co.uk/pi/pi11_new.pdf
Which tends to show the plug in is already a part of Photo Impact 11.

I ve tried this also. I was not sure if this "patch" is also neated for PI 11. (And I am still not.) As far as I understood there were two things for older versions of PI:
1) a plugin, which gave to the additional functionality
2) a patch, which was necessary for older versions to allow you to install the plugin (or to enable PI to recognize the plugin)
The patch for dws is probably independent of that, i.e. it will only enable dws to work with your new menu templates. So for this patch we will surely not need a new version only because we work now with PI 11.
PI 11 should now have build in support for dvd menu templates, but as far as I found there are only library objects like buttons... I did not find any menu which gave me the features the plugin did. I searched manual and online help but there is not much content about dvd menu templates. So I assumed it is still necessary to install the plugin, but I expected that it would not be necessary to first apply any patch to PI 11.
I first tried to simply copy the plugin directory from my old PI programm folder to the new one, but no additional menu appeared.
Then (after deleteing the copied folder) I run again the installer of the plugin. This worked fine, but after that there wasnt any changes in the programm folder of PI 11 and (of course) also no new menu).
I thought the problem was that I didnt deinstall my old version, but now as I read your post ...
The explanation could also be the following:
With PI 11 you can now create 16:9 menu templates for the new movieFactory. (This is one point, where movieFactory is allready better than dws.) This menu templates can not be understood by dws at all. I didnt install movieFactory so far, but eventually it will understand the PI files wihout any special handling from a plugin. If thats the case then the next version of dws will do this probably also. With other words: we will have to wait for the next version of dws or use an old version of PI.

I've created a 29 page PDF file describing how to create a DVD Menu from scratch which can then be used in DMF4, VS9 and WS2.
It explains everything and there are plenty of screen shots to show you the way.
