Error when creating a dual layer dvd

Post by petercli »

I am using VIsual Studio 9, with latest patches.

The total size is 6.3gb out of 8.55

After a couple hours, I get the error :
the target device might have some problems. Please try again or reboot (5213)

I tried a fresh dvd, but got the error again.

I can burn regular dvd's fine.

Any ideas ?

Have you been able to burn anything on one of these dual layer discs with another program? I ask because it sounds like VS9 and or your burner don't like the DL media you are using.

And how are your burning? I mean, are you going straight from the project in the timeline to the burn module (Share > Create Disc > DVD) or, which is the preferred method, first producing a DVD-compatible mpeg-2 (Share > Create Video File > DVD) which you can then burn? If you are not using the latter method, then the wide experience here is that you are asking for trouble.

Ken,
I followed your advice (share>create video file>dvd ) I choose ntsc mpeg2 720x480 at 30fps , and now I have a mpg file.

Can I burn a dvd using a mpg ? How ?
(up till now, i just did share>create disk)

Thanks,Peter

Just open VS9, click on Share > Create Disc > NTSC DVD. The burning module will now open. Click on Add Video in the top left, and navigate to where your mpeg-2 is located and choose that. It will then be inserted into the 'timeline' at the bottom of the burning module screen. Make sure you open the little cogwheel icon at the bottom left of the same screen, under the 'timeline' and check the box 'Do not convert compliant mpeg files'. Create your menus and chapters, and burn.
