Could new ATI video card be causing this problem??

Post by tj3445 »

Recently bought new Compaq AMD 64, 1.5 gig ram, 250mb HD computer with integrated ATI Radeon 200 video sharing 128mb of memory. After loading VS8 I successfully burned a 20 minute DVD with the internal DVD+-drive. No problems. I've just upgraded to ATI Radeon PCIe 300 video card with 128 mg onboard memory and it seems that VS8 is becoming "buggy". The next time I used VS8 I got an "unspecified error" message when I clicked on Output to begin the rendering process. I reinstalled VS8 and error message did not reoccur, however, twice during the actual DVD burn process, the disk was ejected about two-thrids of the way through with another error message. I switched to my external USB2 Pioneer DVD burner and was able to complete the burn. Any thoughts regarding possible connection to new card? Suggestions on remedies? Would appreciate any input.

Well, in theory... the video card shouldn't have anything to do with it. The video card is only used to display the video. It isn't involved in any processing or rendering.

When something like this happens in the middle of rendering, I usually suspect a currupt video file. I've had MPEG files that seem to play fine, but some little corruption confuses the various Ulead programs during rendering or re-multiplexing. :?

However, the fact that it worked with your external burner.... Maybe your internal burner is flakey. :? If the only successful burn was 20 minutes, maybe it can't go beyond a certain point. Is your current project longer?

Video Studio doesn't talk directly to the burner. It talks to the operating system, which talks to the burner's firmware.... So, that shouldn't make any difference... In theory... :?

Thanks, DVDDoug for the comments - maybe it's just a glitch with the DVD player itself. Something I forgot to mention, after successfully burning a DVD on the internal burner and being able to play the disc in my Sony DVD, another disk was rendered and burned on the same burner, however, this disc wasn't recognized in the Sony but would play on the computer. Something seems to be going on, so I'll keep working with the system. Again, thanks for the input.
