DV Camera Copyright Protection?

Post by herbray »

Howdy - -

Last night, I was attempting to transfer video from a Canon ZR to my Win98SE computer using Ulead VideoStudio 7.0 SE. It gave me an error message stating that the source was copyright protected; however, the source is nothing more than footage shot with the self-same camera.

Anybody know what gives?

I used to have this problem when my old computer used Windows ME, but it was also common with people using 98SE. It was caused by having a Texas Instruments firewire driver (TI 1394 device driver) instead of a Microsoft one. So first you should check if you have a TI driver listed Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager (I think it is much the same in 98SE). And get back to us if you have and I will tell you how to change it. I am not at home at the moment, but will be in a few hours and will be able to post a longer message then.

In the capture module, select "Device Control" and select the MS device rather than the TI one.

... if indeed there are two drivers there. Sometimes, the TI driver gets substituted when you have added a Firewire card and it came with a driver CD or for some other reason (e.g. inserted with software installed with other software for your digital video camera, connected via Firewire).
