Capture Errors

Post by wfree@hotmail.com »

Using Video Studio version 9 to capture from my JVC GR-D270 camcorder
I get the following message. "This pin cannot use the supplied media type." The only format that works is WMV but it has no preview. All the other formats DV, Mpeg, VCD, SVCD, and DVD generate the same error. I am using firewire to transfer and Window Movie Maker works perfectly. I can transfer video in other programs but not Video Studio. Googling this error I found some ideas to reload my sound driver and Direct X to solve this error but that does not help. Here is the error code from Microsoft:
Audio and Video Playback Error Codes: -2147220950 VFW_E_TYPE_NOT_ACCEPTED This pin cannot use the supplied media type. Can one of you experts help me out?

My comppter is Athlon XP 2200/w 512 Meg of Ram
NTSC drop frame (29.97 fps)
MPEG files
24 Bits, 720 x 480, 29.97 fps
Lower Field First
(DVD-NTSC), 4:3

If you haven't already, you may need to install the driver/software that came with the camera. It might need a specific driver.

If you can't "capture" with Video Studio, you should be able to transfer the video to your hard drive with the software that came with your camera. (You should be able to directly import the DV file (to AVI/DV) without any transcoding.) Once the file is transfered to your hard drive, you can edit with Video Studio.

Although pin sounds like a physical connector-pin, I've seen that term used in relation to how codecs, filters & other bits of software are "connected". ...That error sounds like a confused codec to me.
