pixel problem with Video Studio 9
I have recently edited a 30min. home movie using video studio 9 and burnt image to DVD without any problems. The second movie I edited came out blurry when burnt to DVD with same settings. Looking closely at the screen you can see small squares interfering with the image which looked okay on computer. Have tried to burn again without sucess and have ticked the box under 'Advanced Settings' to 'Perform non-square pixel rendering'. I am using a 2.4 Pentium with 1gb ram, 16 sp LG burner, 8x DVD discs and have plenty of HDD space. PAL is the format for Australia. Is there a quick fix to salvage my home movie?

video studio pixel problem
On the issue of the same problem I have reviewed the edited home movie on my computer and have picked up that it too has distorted pixels and the movie is jerky when there there is any movement. The only difference to the previous video captured is that this was the first time I had used a formated DV tape (run through the camera before using). That captured and gave me one thumbnail which I dropped into the video timeline. All my other settings are the same. I have downloaded the latest updates from the site.

video studio 9 pixel problem
Ken, thanks for replying to my problem. I am using a Panasonic mini DV and the only thing I have changed since the last edited movie is use a formated tape. The image captured looks like rippled glass is covering the the image on the screen and then when the camera is panned or there is any movement in the image it is jerky. Don't know what other settings/properties to tell you about. Someone told me to format the tapes first and that way I see that you only get one thumbnail come up after capturing and not split scenes. I dragged the one thumbnail into the video timeline then edited it from there.

further to the pixel problem
I have re-captured the same video footage and it has the same problem. The settings being used are PAL (25 fps) MPEG files, 24 bit, 720x576, 25 fps, lower field first, (DVD-PAL) 4:3.

You still haven't told us how you captured: Firewire, USB, other method?
I would also suggest you try capturing first to DV format, instead of direct to mpeg-2. Do your edits in DV format, then render the clip into a DVD-compatible mpeg-2: Share > Create Video File > DVD. Then, with that new file, go Share > Create Disc > DVD. Let us know what happens.

pixel problem with Video Studio 9
Ken, Sorry about that but my capture is Firewire. I caputured further footage since and the problem still exists. I have been editing straight from DV footage (AVI files) then to Share, create disk, and the program renders the finished product. Proble is that the pixel problem is on the captured DV footage when I am at the edit stage b4 it is rendered. I am going to try reinstalling VS9, re-download the update pak and see if it was some coruption or a missing file. I'll also make sure my virus protection is turned of to avoid any conflicts. Thanks for helping with my problem.

I have tried adjusting to differnt settings thru 'file' 'preference' with no joy. There doesn't seem to be any further settings I can adjust in the editing program that will removed all the pixel interference. The capture plug in is Ulead DSW MPEGcapture pin. I assumed that is the only capure option I have. As I have stated b4 the immage whilst capturing from the camera is perfect. Once copied to a file in VS9 the resolution drops out.

Why do you capture to mpeg? Disk space issue? I suggest your problem is not so much in VS, it's more likely your PC's lacking power to do the number crunching in real time to mpeg. Many people here have suggested to use a capture device that has hardware encoding to mpeg built in rather than leave that to the CPU of your computer.
I tried just once to capture to mpeg because there was not going to be any editing involved. Had so many issues that I canned that idea and captured to DV AVI then used MSP to create the DVD compliant mpeg file and burned it to disk with MF3. No problems at all.

When you have most recently captured in DV format, can you confirm you were using the DSW MPEG Capture Plug-in. It should not have worked at all, but would certainly account for poor capture quality of the captured DV file. For DV capture, you need to go Tools > Change Capture Plug-in > Ulead Direct Show Capture Plug-in...

solved pixel distortion problem
Thanks Ken & Bop. I have changed the capture plug in to Ulead Direct Show from DSW MPEG and re-captured some footage. Looks like that was the problem, would have been nice to know two weeks ago whilst I still had some hair left. I'll re-do my edited movie, burn to DVD and keep fingers crossed. Thanks Heaps! Another small problem you might be able to answer. I continually save my edited video as I'm working on it because quite often the computer freezes. If I re-boot and re-open VS9 it often takes me back to the same spot. Any ideas why it freezes and any solution? I am running with 1Gb ram.
Thanks again for solving the capture issue.
