Backing Up of Custom Settings

Post by Owen Dawe »

When making custom settings of video effects, transitions, overlays. etc. In MSP Video Editor, Audio Editor, Video Paint and CG Infinity. I know how to set and save to their respective folders. But, how do you back these up to a cd to be able to re-install in the event of a computer disaster. I'm trialing MSP 8 at the moment and would like to bring some of my custom settings forward from earlier versions instead of trying to recreate them all again.

Right-click over the various Custom folders then select the Save option from the context menu and name it. To load 'em back into the Custom folder name it Custom.xxx.

To have your custom effects load into a custom folder name it customname.xxx. This is how I get my custom PIP and Portrait effects to have their own folders and not appear in Custom.

To load 'em back in select the Load option from the same effect types context menu (right click over Transitions, Video Filters etc).

Each type of effect will save using it's own file extension:

*.mvp = Video Editor moving paths
*.teg = Video Editor transitions
*.rsf = Video Editor video filters
*.rsa = Video Editor audio filters
*.gal = Video Editor Production Library (and Project Tray in MSP8)
*.cgo = CG Infinity custom objects
*.cgs = CG Infinity custom styles
*.cga = CG Infinity custom moving paths
*.cge = CG Infinity custom envelopes
*.rsp = Video Paint custom Paints

The following files are in (install folder)/Ulead.dat and should also be backed up;

macro.rsm = Video Paint macros
paint.rsm = Video Paint custom
retouch.rsr = Video Paint retouches
clone.rsc = Video Paint clones

Had enough? :D :D

Thank you Terry for a prompt informative reply. Or as we say down under "Thanks mate!"

MSP 8 is just the best. Thanks for all the input and time you've put in on our behalf.

I'm now up most of the night 'fiddling and twidling' on MSP and having fun. I tell my wife I'll just go and shut the computer down. Then reapear five hours latter bug eyed.

The Layout Managers setup file is here;

C:/documents and settings/(username)/application data/Ulead Systems/Ulead MediaStudio Pro/8.0/Layout.ult

You might want to look here for current versions of some of the files in (install folder)/Ulead.dat mentioned in the post above.
