Print to tape will not show on Camera

Post by Brendon »

I'm having problems exporting my movie timeline to DV Tape.

I have printed many movies to tape over the years using MSP7, and I have had few problems up until now.

Now when I try to print to tape, MSP renders the timeline, and then comes up with a black screen. When it should start playing the file, it remains black. I've tried leaving it for over 20 mins, and still nothing.

Printing a Video file to tape rather than the timeline, produces the same result. I have tries Delay, and Manually with keyboard or mouse. I don't know what to do with Device control.

After the render, I hit rec/pause on the camera, (connections have been checked) but nothing displays on the camera screen. Recording simply records a blue screen. Other movies can no longer be printed to tape either.

Camera is Canon Mv600i (1334 connection)

UPDATE:

I have used several devices. I am able to preview the file through the DV Device, by selecting preview through DV Camcorder in playback options. However, It simply doesn't happen when I use the print to tape function.

I don't know what to do with Device control.
Without setting Device Control you won't get anywhere. Try setting it to the "MS 1394 Device Control" driver.

Sony and Canon cams often use non-industry-standard IEEE-1394 (I know that Sony use at least 3 different ones). If you really get stuck with P-to-T, render your project into a DV type 1 file and use Export.

Yup....especially Sony cams. They seem to play it fast & loose with the standards quite a bit :P

Hey,
Thanks for your suggestions. I have the device control set to 1334 Connection.

Also, the camera has worked previously and I am now using a Panasonic NV DV2000 (DV Tape Deck)

I will try to render it as a DV-Type 1 file. How do I do this though? It doesn't give that option in "create video file"

Cheers,

But it does.

Select Microsoft AVI type files, then Options, then, under the AVI tab, Compression, DV Video Encoder - Type 1

Choose the few other options (all 3 tabs) according to which system you are using.

Quality Loss

Great. Thanks for that.

Can you please tell me if I'll lose quality with that option?

No more than if you exported a project directly to the camera. Basically you will only lose a bit where effects are applied, which is normal in any editor. All rendering does is record the project to the HDD.
