mixed capture

Post by Klaus Christo »

I have a dv movie which was filmed in both normal and widescreen.
I now want to make a widescreen version of this.
When I capture is it important what setting the properties is on? Does it have to be 6:9 for capturing? I know I have to capture it using split scene option.

Hi Klaus Christo

This is not something that many of us will have done.

As you mentioned ‘split by screen’ I assume you are capturing via Firewire (i-link)

This is what I would try.
From file / preferences check ‘show messages when inserting first video……..
Do not use split by screen
Start a NEW project
Capture my 16:9
At the end of capture VS will change the project properties to match the captured clip.
Select Yes to accept the change.

Delete the captured file from the timeline.
Capture the 4:3
Save the project.

From the Edit Screen and Timeline View
Drag the 4:3 image to the Overlay Track.
Right click the preview to select additional options to allow you to resize the frame to 16:9
You will lose some of your 4:3 image around the edges.

Render the video (share create video file –same as project settings.)
You now have two 16:9 videos to make one movie.

Let us know how you get on.

Others on the forum may have different ideas, interesting.
