How to change names of thumbnails?

Post by lmayka »

VS9 generates long, meaningless thumbnail names automatically (e.g., as the result of Save Trimmed Video). How can I change the names of those thumbnails in the Media Library?

well you can highlight the file name (such as uvs19473967t43 or whatever it is named) and type in your own title. if name of the thumbnail isn't showing, then go to File->Prefrences->Clip Display Mode: Thumbnail and file name.

if you had a different question, such as how to actually rename the file, then right click on the thumbnail and click properties. read the file name, it will show u what directory it is in. hope this helps!

Thank you. That works well.

However, someone should point out to Ulead that that operation is not obvious. The standard Windows convention is that if an operation (like Rename Thumbnail) is available on a displayed object, that operation should be included in the object's right-click menu.

That is what confused me: There is no Rename Thumbnail operation in a thumbnail's right-click menu.

Of course, it would be very convenient to have a Rename File operation too.

In point of fact, this is one failing of Video Studio which has generated a lot of anger and wasted time since virtually the first version of the program!! There is no simple rename procedure because Ulead seems not to believe that any improvement is required. The mysterious numbers that are used in its own naming protocol is supposed to make sense (date of capture, time of capture and then sub-sets when you break up a main file into sub-files). The only way of changing file names is as has already been described. There is no other method hidden away, just waiting to be discovered. Me, I have been dealing with this since version 7 and have simply given up and accept the silly Ulead names and use the right click > properties a lot when you have 'saved trimmed video' and thus produced a number of icons in your library which look exactly the same and have equally incomprehensible names!!!

Changing the thumbnail name is good enough for most purposes, until you upgrade to the next version of VideoStudio. As we all know, the Media Library (with all its thumbnails) does not get imported into the next version of VideoStudio.
