Why can't I get the same quality picture when connecting my camera directly to my tv as when I play the same photos on a slideshow?
The photos are 1984x1488, 719kb in my camera. I connect the camera to the tv and the picture quality is great.
I then create a slideshow uploading from the camera to the computer software and burn a dvd-r. The pictures on the dvd remain 719kb. The pictures lose some quality playing on my dvd to the same tv.
Has anyone else found this same quality problem?
The only possible explanation is the slideshow software says "Video 720x480 MPEG II". Is this reducing the resolution?
Thanks for any replies.
Photo quality question, camera to tv versus dvd slideshow
resolution
Yes it does reduce the resolution since your photos has to comply with the DVD resolution standards such as 720x480 after it burned to your DVD disc. That is why your 1984x1488 quality photos seemed to reduce its quality when burned to your DVD and played on your TV.

You can overcome some of that by reducing the photo to the frame size of the DVD standard in a good image processing program like PhotoImpact. The algorithmns used by PictureShow or other programs converting the stills to the frame size for DVD and compressing to mpeg2 are not ideally suited to image processing.
Even when you reduce a photo in PhotoImpact, you should re-sharpen your image before saving it.
