Frustrated user in creating 5.1 Dolby Digital DVD
Hi guys...
i have spend some night to try to create a good sound in DolbyDigital 5.1 codec, but all my tries is ended with unsuccess ....
i edit in MPEG DolbyDigital 5.1 project a short video.
Insert 3 indipendent audio track for frontL/frontC/frontR (my voice that say front right, center, front left)
An stereo audio track for read chanbel.
Set-up mixer as:
channel FL: point at corn up left, center and lfe slide to 0
channel C: point at center up, center and lfe to 1
channel FR: point at corn up right, center and lfe slide to 0
channel lfe, rear L/R: point at center down, center and lfe slide to 0
After this i test with PC speacker and works for front channel, read is not auditable i don't have rear speacker.
Then i create an mpeg video with 5.1 channel and bu9ld a DVD with DVD Workshop 2.0 patched to last patch available.
DVD is recognize as Dolby Digital 3.2 but audio is only from front peacker and all track in mixed in a single channel point at center.
I read MSP8 manual ad in Audio create file, create a WAV file with 5.1channel codec, but unfortunatly this type of WAV is not compatible with DVDWorkshop.
Now my question:
1) Some one have create a good DolbyDigital 5.1 channel with different track?
2) How i can use teack 4,5,6,7 as single track and not in a group?
3) How i need to setup DVDWorkshop to use this DolbyDigital audio?
Thanks
Marco.

Sorry, I can answer validly only your last question. The 5.1 encoding must be dome in MSP8 (or any other suitable encoder). In WS2, you make sure the audio is not re-encoded by going into the audio tab and making sure the box is not checked.
I'm trying to get to grips with the same general problems as you describe, but, as a beta tester, I was disappointed that an easy solution never made it to the release version. I hope it will to SP1. I'm in regular contact with Ulead about this.

I agree that the 5.1 is really bad. I even called Ulead support and the guy told me that MSP8 didn't support 5.1 at all!!!! I told him he was wrong and after a few minutes of trying to prove it to him, he looked it up and WHOA it does have 5.1 support! Gee, this doesn't make me feel any better.
All they need is a slider on the little channel bouncing displays. I like the little yellow ball idea, but do that inconjunction with individual sliders for each channel. They have sliders for center and LFE, but not all the channels. Kinda cheap guys!
Give us sliders so we can tweak each channel as needed -- and have each channel go to zero so we can separate channels completely with no bleed.
I suggest Ulead stop attempting to give us general features with simulated effects, and just give us the tools to do it correctly. I don't mind a learning curve if the tools work. What good is it to make it easy to use but it won't do anything we want?

Thanks Davil, i forgot to say that i import and use MPEG file created by MSP8 with this flag so DVDWorkshop 2 preserve MPEG audio and video caracteristic.
ScottMc i agree with you that Ulead shoul deliver a functionality product and not an option that don't works..... bt i think that Ulead is on a great way!!!! I think that if Ulead fix this problem is a great funciotnality to insert audio track and say:
ok this is my prefered center track
this is may prefered rear track
and so on
ulead shoul insert and option and enable this mixer or classic mixer, easy volume slide that user need to setup correctly

Let me please explain what happened personally. When beta testing, 5.1 was just about usable and I based much of what I've said on this experience. I was late receiving the release version and it was only recently that I found 5.1 was broken. I had not received a pre-release build, so this came as a complete surprise. I have done some testing over the past week or so and have sussed out a number of problems with it.
You can rest assured that other beta testers, as well as myself, have informed, in no uncertain terms, Ulead about the fact that 5.1 is not what it's cracked up to be and we have implored them to find a solution for SP1, if not by earlier patches. Obviously, I regret this state of affairs but I'm not in a position to apologise on their behalf. All I can do is to ask users to be patient while the software wizards dream up a way round the problems; hopefully, this will not be long. And please don't ask me when SP1 will be issued, because I don't know!

Davil,
until now MSP8( is a great product an stable. No crash, no freeze, no error or any over problem...i repeat me:until now and on my system.
Maybe i'm lucky ,i don't know!! only one bad thinks at the moment is Dobly Digital 5.1 codec.
Is true i try for 2 week trial version and now i use since 2 week final version, too short time to say is all ok!!!
I hope that Ulead:
1. release as soon as possible a fix for 5.1 codec and any other problem that don't works
2. release in next months, with a high quality, a service pack
3. consider to fix msp8 and any other ulead product link to msp8, ie dvd workshop 2
By and....
good testing
Marco
ps: i work in a worldwide company in IT and i know for a software huse how is difficult to delevolp , release and respect time with a good and high quality product that do what it shoul doing.

I agree that Ulead has a great product here, and that v8 is far better than 7 (I've only had one problem with it not wanting to create MPEG files due to some kind of audio issue). But the biggest "issue" that I'm unhappy about is the 5.1.
I hope a fix will come very very soon!
I've stayed with MSP because of it's potential and I was looking forward to v8. If v8 wasn't as good as it is -- I would have gone elsewhere. MSP7 was crashing all the time and I didn't have time to deal with that. v8 is much much better.
Good job Ulead! Now fix 5.1 PLEASE!!!!

I have been experiencing the same problems as you are and why shouldn’t I, we all know that it is not working as they let us (at least me) understand it should work: Being able to create 5.1 audio for all my videos by putting different sound originals on different sound tracks and using the mixer to define from which speaker the sound should come out.
I actually got an answer to a question I sent to Ulead support. Here it is

So does this mean that this feature is not supposed to work the way I think it should or am I just understanding this reply wrong? ? I can have 5.1 output only if my originals are already in that format? The Dolby Sorround Sound feature of MediaStudio Pro 8 can only be applied in videos with the same Dolby 5.1 audio format which is captured directly from DVD camcorders with the related feature for capturing the audio. For the usual videos that are captured using a DV camcorder or captured from analog source you can encode it into Dolby Digital sound 2.1 or AC-3 format.

Just for information:
I experienced the same problems.
However, using a 5.1 coded file from a digital TV broadcast I can confirm, that I finally have the original 5.1 sound on DVD having pressed the file through Media Studio 8 and DVD Workshop 2.
That would mean, that the 5.1 coding feature of MS8 is a bit reduced to "I do not hurt the original sound", wouldn't it?

Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround
Hi all just had time to browse the web board and it seems that the old 5.1 Dolby surround as come up again. I see that jyli67 managed to get a replay back from ulead tec see below

For the usual videos that are captured using a DV camcorder or captured from analog source you can encode it into Dolby Digital sound 2.1 or AC-3 format.
Now look at the extract form the web page from ulead MSP8 site
Create Dolby® Digital 5.1 Surround audio tracks with channel steering
I am not knocking ulead I have been a user for some years and find MSP8 to be one of the best programs for the price. But please don’t say that it can create Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround and then say only if it is there in the first place?
