Hi all... I'm a new user to Ulead VideoStudio 9, and I've got some problems.
While I'm editing a movie, I like to preview things. At certain points (especially when I get to transitions), Ulead will no longer allow me to preview the video. The audio works fine, but I just get a jumping, repeating picture (or a green-screen) in the preview window. When I exit Ulead and restart, it seems to work okay for a bit.
This is almost as if I'm running out of RAM. But, I have 1GB of RAM, running on a Pentium 4 with lots of HD space. I would have thought that would be enough to run Ulead.
It's also noteworthy that sometimes after prolonged use, when I hit CUSTOMIZE a transition, either nothing happens or it boots me out of Ulead with no error messages. Again, almost as if I have run out of RAM.
Any suggestions?

When replying to technical issues I like to mention that I'm fairly new to VS9 so don't take any of my comments or suggestions as definitive
Re: preview issues
From VS9's main UI, if you select File > Preferences and then click the General tab there are several options you can experiment with.
Playback Method: A drop-down menu offers a choice of "Instant Playback" or "High Quality Playback". The default is "Instant Playback" however if you select "High Quality Playback" the project will render before the preview begins. This of course takes some time but the preview playback should be smooth even through your transition inserts.
Instant Playback Target: A drop-down menu offers several playback profiles i.e.; Dual Head Device, Preview Window, DV Camcorder, etc... You may notice a difference depending on the chosen profile.
There may be some settings that could be optimized on your video card as well. Unfortunately I'm not familiar with nVidia based cards.
In general, your system specs exceed VS9's requirements. You've got a full Gig of memory and a 3.0Ghz processor so I can't imagine why your problems would be resource related. When running various functions with VS9 have you had a chance to monitor your CPU and memory useage through WIndows Task Manager or a 3rd party diagnostic utility?
On my system, an Instant Playback Preview typically runs my P4 3.2Ghz CPU at about 55% and uses up to 65mb of physical memory. A High Quality Playback preview runs CPU at around 20% however the rendering process (which occurs prior to HQ playback) will peak my CPU at as much as 90% periodically.

try this
i had this problem too and it's disappeared. First I reset my hardware acceleration down 3 clicks (right click desktop, select properties, settings, advanced, troubleshoot)
that eliminated the problem.
however i wasn't satisfied, so i went into my bios and reset the AGP setting for VGA shared memory from 32M to 64M, and then reset my hardware acceleration back to high. The problem was still gone.
A friend then told my I should use zeroM for this setting and that worked too.
good luck
