I have VS9 running on older (P4 1.9GHz) PC. I plan to buy newer and much faster PC next month, and want to run VS9 on the new PC.
What is procedure for transferring the VS9 license from 1 PC to the other? Does Ulead make this possible? Is is straightforward? Has anyone out there done this? Is this documented?
Thanks,
Robert

How to uninstall VS9 and reinstall on a different PC?
Peter:
Thanks for reply, but I still don't understand.
I assume when I install VS9 on 1 PC, that it will login to Ulead's servers and register a unique license code for my software.
So, when I buy a new PC, I would prefer VS9 to be on THAT newer PC. But, what happens when I go to re-install it? Won't it login to Ulead's servers, and Ulead will say "No, that license is already installed. Sorry, 1 license = 1 install" or something to that effect?
I know these might be dumb questions, but many companies do exactly this procedure. Those companies will provide a method for transferring the license. Usually it involves unistalling it, and this notifies the companies servers, which then are flagged to re-allow that license to have one more installation.
Have you actually tried installing the CD of VS9 on multiple servers?
Does anyone have the answer to this question? I have written e-mail to Ulead support without any reply on this.
Thanks,
Robert

Yeah, ULead's support sux
But then so do the others - the number of emails I have sent requesting information about products and just been ignored...
I am not really certain because it looks like ULead have started using "activation" with their products - I really don't know whether VS9 has this incorporated in it or whether it just missed out i.e. I have heard that Media Studio 8 has activation built into - but that product came out after VS9 was released.
I have installed VS9 on 3 computers todate - all 3 of which I am the single VS9 user BTW
A notebook (on which I do my editing), my "fast" home computer (which I use to do my rendering) and my work computer (which I use to help answer questions on this Forum
). Unfortunately all 3 computers are permanently connected to the Internet so when I installed I was not aware of any activation occuring (I assume it is automatic and you are unaware of it happening unless you don't have Internet connectivity).
I believe that somebody in a message to the forum mentioned that activation can be performed 4 - 8 times (?????) before the product will nolonger activate.
My recommendation would be that the license certainly can be moved to a new computer (just by installing it onto that computer) - but I would suggest at that time that you take an image of the main drive (I recommend "Image for Windows" for this) - this way you can "re-install" the application on the computer (same one
) as often as you like - because the activation code will be caught at the time that the image was taken - this is how I manage re-imaging my computers with respect to XP activiation - the "image" contains the activation code so when I want to "start afresh" by reloading the image it is all there (as opposed to the people who reformat, reload the OS and then have to re-activate their copy of XP).
I hope this makes sense - but in summary, I certainly believe you can install your VS9 on a new computer without any problems
If there is something incomprehensible in the above then by all means email me directly and I will try and make it clearer
Good luck with the new computer,
Peter
