Capturing DV with 2 stereo channels?

Post by chtchege »

After I'd purchased a 4-channel mike I tried it with my camcorder and then tried to 'pour' my video onto my HD. Well, it seems the Ulead Video Capture won't capture the second DV stereo channel - there's no way to select it, or, at least, I haven't found it (at the same time Video Editor now supports opening 2-channel DV AVI's).
Is there any way to capture the second DV stereo channel with Ulead Video Capture, or this should be added to the wish list?

Is your cam set for 32 kHz sampling 4 channel 12 bit? It is important that this be the case. You have no choice for capture, as that is straight copying. However, I see that the 32 kHz 12 bit setting says Stereo, in VE project settings, but it doesn't say whether it is 1 or 2 pairs of stereo channels. Have you tried Multi-channel Surround Sound in the VE settings?

Yes, it can register 4 channels of 12 bit/32khz (of course, to make DVD afterwards, one needs to convert this to proper audio format). I haven't tried changing the avi settings, I only tried to put the resulting AVI on the timeline - it's reported to be just plain stereo (proper 4-channel AVI files, as it is written in the manual, must allow to select which audio channels you want to place where) (I even tried to analyse the AVI with some third-party programmes - no, it contains 2 channels, it seems Ulead Capture is unable to capture the entire DV stream, limiting only to one audio channel).
As for the capture being straight copying, yes and no: in Scenalyzer you have the choice to select what audio channel you want to capture (stereo 1, stereo 2 or both, unfortunately even Scenalyzer records the second stereo channel in a separate WAV and not in AVI directly). I'd really like Ulead Capture implement this (maybe with the upcomming service pack).
(sorry for advertising an enemy product, but I've really no choice).
