Video Studio 9 problems

Post by Fastncool »

I have had a lot of problems getting this program to work correctly. I had it installed on a AMD Sempron 2800 machine with Win2K Pro. It would not capture camcorder and error messages dumped me out of the program.

I reinstalled the software on a Pentium III 800mhz machine with Win2K Pro. It seem to work pretty well.

The problem is my DVD burner is in my Sempron machine. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Video Studio 9, but my Smart QuickTracks (sds files) are not showing up in the library. I f you click on the Owned audio 22K full spectrum tracks it does not show, even though it is there if you check the file system. What is the problem?

I am trying to open the edited file from the Pentium machine on the Sempron machine. Of course it won't work properly because there are missing audio files. Help!

Which version of Quicktime are you currently running on your Sempron machine? Also, what capture device are you using?

I am using Quicktime version 7. I am using a firewire card from HP, which is VIA OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 controller card. Like I indicated I switched this card to my Pentium machine and loaded the software. It all seems to work OK. I think it doesn't like the AMD Sempron machine. What do you think?

I'm fairly new to VS9 so I really can't comment on the Sempron question. Perhaps another user will have something to offer on that.

Your SmartSound problem is probably a Quicktime version issue. Before I continue, let me just say that the following is the procedure that ultimately worked for me. There may be a more streamlined way to go about it and of course others with more VS9 knowledge are welcome to comment. Lastly, you'll probably want to resolve the Sempron issue before bothering with any of this.

Unless Ulead has recently updated their installer package, the Smartsound module included with VS9 is only compatible with Quicktime versions up to 6.5.X however it can be updated to work with Quicktime 7. You can try running the SmartSound update patch (see below) on your existing installation but I doubt if it will fix the problem. More likely you'll need to perform a FULL uninstall of VS9 using the procedure I'll detail below. Once VS9 has been removed, uninstall Quicktime 7 as well.

Before reinstalling VS9, install Quicktime 6.5.2 which can be downloaded at http://www.softwarepatch.com/internet/quicktime.html

Next, reinstall VS9. This time your SmartSound files should have installed correctly although you might want to verify this before moving on to the next phase. So, if all is well, reinstall Quicktime 7 and then go to http://www.smartsound.com/support/qxpar ... pdate.html and download and install the SmartSound update patch (Version 3.0.2.7). If all goes as planned your SmartSound 22K problem should be cured.

FYI, if you're an iTunes user be advised that iTunes 6 is not compatible with Quicktime 6.5.2 however once you've reinstalled Quicktime 7 your iTunes 6 player should again be functional. Of course if you're not concerned with iTunes 6 you can opt to stay with QT 6.5.2.

Here is the recommended "clean" uninstall / reinstall procedure for VS9:

1) Clean up C:\Windows\temp directory. Clean up all files in C:\Documents and
Settings\[UserName]\Local Settings\Temp folder. Uninstall VideoStudio 9 from
control panel Add/Remove programs.
Delete following folders
=>C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Ulead
VideoStudio
=>C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\SmartSound Software Inc
=>C:\Documents and Settings\[Username]\My Documents\Ulead VideoStudio
=>C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ulead Systems\

Proceed to step 2, even if you can't complete step 1.

2) Delete folder {88F92798-59AB-474F-B40D-1EC5F782F7EE} in
C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information (Please set "Show hidden
files and folders." in folder option in OS)

3) Please del the folder " Ulead VideoStudio 9.0" folder in C:\program
files\ulead system
4) Run Regedit from Start/Run in Windows task bar
5) Delete folder {88F92798-59AB-474F-B40D-1EC5F782F7EE} in
KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\
(If you always see Ulead VideoStudio 9 file name showed in the Add/Remove
Program, please do point 5)

Good luck!
