MF-4 DVD-Audio not creating AC3 5.1 compliant audio files

Post by Grafxman »

:?
I'm trying out Movie Factory 4.0 Disc creator and the main reason for considering a purchase is the DVD-Audio/DVD-Video (but audio only) feature.
My car (Acura TL ’05) has DVD-Audio capabilities and it would be great to compile several CD’s onto 1 DVD.

After wasting numerous DVD Discs trying to compile an Audio DVD, this is the problem I’ve encountered:

The DVD-Audio system in the car came with a DEMO disc, obviously it plays just fine. The audio format according to the demo disc is Dolby-Digital 5.1. I ran this demo disc thru an analyzer to see the structure/contents and found it contains both the VIDEO_TS files as well as the AUDIO_TS files, in both the AC2 and AC6 Dolby 5.1 format. By the way, this is the same DVD/Audio stucture I see on commercial DVD’s

After trying every conceivable configuration I could think of in MF-4 I still couldn’t produce an Audio-DVD or DVD-Audio that would play in this (car) system.

Using the DVD-Audio only option I noted that the VIDEO_TS folder was created, where the audio portion is actually combined in the VIDEO_VOB files, which doesn’t work of course.

After trying the AUDIO-DVD feature the only options I found to do it were LPCM audio and Dolby-Digital 5.1 – whatever that’s supposed to mean – because I still don’t get a file that is AC2/AC3 or AC6 Dolby 5.1 compliant that can be played in the system.

Note: BOTH of the resulting DVD’s did however play fine on my PC and Home DVD players.

What am I missing?
Is it even POSSIBLE to create a truly AC-compliant Audio-DVD with MF-4?

For DVD-Audio disc, the Burn. Now component in Ulead DVD MovieFactory 4 will create it as AOB files with LPCM audio in the AUDIO_TS folder, the VIDEO_TS folder should be empty.

For Audio DVD disc, Burn. Now will create VOB files in the VIDEO_TS folder with LPCM or Dolby Digital stereo audio, the AUDIO_TS folder should be empty.

For DVDMF 4.00 or the trial version, there is a compatibility bug on burning DVD-Audio disc. If you apply the v4.03 update pack from http://www.ulead.com/tech/dmf/dmf_ftp.htm the problem should be fixed (but you cannot apply the update pack to the trial version).

For more information, you can check:

Hope this helps.

Thanks so much HT !
You certainly provided a TON of info about this!

I read thru all the posts and forums you recommended - VERY interesting!
First, I must say that some of the **** comments about ULead by users on the Azine forum were really unecessary, those people really need to chill out some. From experience over years with pc's Ive come to realize that its not always the SW causing the prob, in many cases its more likely the idiot user and specific configs of ea persons pc, not to mention other conflicting SW they may have installed - etc.

I found an updated LXDAengDLL patch (ver 1.0.0.10) in the Acura gorum and tried it with my current ver of Burn. Now; WOW - IT WORKED!!!

Ive so far created 2 DVD-A's and they sound GREAT! I'll prob never even have the time to listen to it all !

At first I didnt even know about the BurnNow standalone ver because my interest was in MF-4 since I more into video and already have many ULead prog's going all the way back to the 90's, mostly the MediaStudio Pro series. Gee, I wonder if the fist issue of MSP is a collectors item because I still have it!

Anyway, thanks for the info, now I can proceed with confidence about MF-4;

Rick
