Capture resolution

I have just upgraded my computer and have reinstalled video studio 9 upgrade by usind download upgrade file and original v7 disk
When I capture and edit I get very washed out picture. When I stop the frozen frame is excellent. What is problem

I have as follows
amd athlon 64 processor 3000+
1.81 ghs
1 gb ram
hard drive 250 gb
Camera cannon mvx250i
Firewire connector ( transferred from old computer)

I did have the capture working for a short while but now it is totally washed out

I now have had a further trial, If I capture from my camera the image on the screen is completely washed out as I capture. When I go to edit and play it is also washed out but if I stop at any time the resultant still image is fine. If I add a mpeg2 file to the time line and play it then the picture is excellent.

Your computer specs appear fine, but could you tell us what capture settings you are using please.
