PC reboots when burning video in Videostudio 9

Post by Nick »

Please someone help me I'm about to pull my hair out here.

I have a very stable system that never falls over, my specs are as follows:

Windows XP Pro SP2
AMD Athlon XP 2600+
1.5GB crucial DDR 400MHZ RAM
1 x 127GB HDD
1 x 300GB HDD (for video only)
Soundblaster Audigy
Gigabyte 6600GT graphics card
GSA-4081B LG DVDRAM drive

I recently bought Videostudio 9 and have been very impressed with the product's video editing capabilities. When it comes to burning DVD's though it's an entirely different matter. The program actually REBOOTS my machine when I'm in the middle of writing my video to a DVD.

Now I have read all the posts concerning this issue and I have done everything from:

- making sure the project properties and video properties are the same
- not have anything in the timeline when burning
- following the instructions on burning in the first sticky post
- ran the patch for Videostudio 9
- installed the dvd burning patch
- uninstalled Windows Installer 3.1
- repaired my installation of Videostudio 9
- disabled my internet connection, firewall and virus scanning software
- burnt the DVD at 4x only

still my machine always reboots when it comes to the burning of a DVD stage. I can write DVD's fine with other software. I don't have NERO or any other DVD writing software running on my machine that can interfere with the writing process. I use Datasafe Media RW DVD+R discs, which work fine when I write anything with a program called "B's Recorder Gold 7" (which doesn't run anything in the background)

I have been asked to make a dvd for a band and I've finished the video I just need to burn the DVD, please help me this is killing me! I'll give any more info you might need, just ask, but I think I've covered it all here. Any advice would be great, thanks. Even if it is something like go out and buy some other software to do the DVD authoring, just tell me what's good and what works, or how to fix the problem I'm currently having.

Thanks for reading this all,
Cheers,
Nick

Instead of burning a disc, have you tried 'burning' an ISO file or Video_TS folder instead? And then use Nero to burn that to disc? A work-around, I realise, but if you are desperate...

I don't think it's VS that reboots your system. XP must be falling over somewhere and restart. Check with MS tech support also.

IMHO, if VS had a problem with the burning, it would stop or crash or whatever, it does not have the power to reboot your computer, only the OS can do that.

Thanks guys you were both right, I'm so relieved to have found what the problem was. Ken, I did what you said and burnt an ISO file - no problems. When I tried to burn it to disc with some other software, I realised that whenever I put a blank dvd into my machine it would reboot spontaneously after a few seconds. This never happened before, only after I installed VS9, so I checked my task manager and found this process running:

ULCDRSvr.exe

I ended it, and was able to write the ISO image to my DVD and it worked! Thank you so much, you guys are life savers. Now my question is, how do I fix this service, or stop it from loading up in the first place?

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Cheers,
Nick

Hi Nick,

You need to be logged on as Administrator or with Administrator rights to do this..

Go to Control Panel/Administrative Tools
Select Services
Scroll down the list until you find the service you wish to stop.
Right click on it and select Stop from the popup menu.
Re-starting is a repeat of the above but just select Restart

Hope this helps

I have that disabled with no ill effects ( i always burn with nero )
Right click my computer , click manage , click services and applications , click services , "click ulead burning helper" , in the drop down box "startup type" click disabled , apply.

Crickey, you guys are fast. Thanks for all the advice, I'll switch it off when I get home tonight and henceforth burn with other software.

Funny how most of the replys came from down-under, you cobbers are really on top of your game! Legends.
