Burning projects to disc questions

Post by tiefighterblue »

Just have a couple of questions as to what some of you DVDWKSP 2 users have for your settings when you burn your projects to disc. 1) What speed do you suggest burning projects: MAX or LOWEST speed? 2) What video data rate do you use: variable or constant? 3) In Burn Project To Disc what "type" in advanced settings do you use: 1, 2 or 3?

Thanks

As a general rule, I burn at ½ the rated speed of the blank. If I want it as an archive copy, I burn at the lowest speed.

As for settings, this depends on your original input file type and the duration of the project. For DVDs under 1½ hours, from a DV source, I generally choose 6000 kbit/s CBR video and AC-3 2.0 sound at 192 kbit/s. I find there is generally no improvement at higher speeds. This would possibly not be the case for uncompressed input from a high quality source. At these settings, the blank will not be filled for shorter projects, but this does not matter. For longer projects, I aim for 4.0 to 4.1 Gb total size, to allow for a small margin of error and to avoid burning the more delicate outer rim of the blank.

I often burn at around 1/2 the speed as well, then my dvd more than likely ends up in a dup tower, on to it's hard drive and out come lots of copies.
I encode my video using canopus procoder, so do not use Ulead to encode video. Encode audio in ac-3, depending on what sort of video it is, speech I don't tend to have a big a setting as one which contains music etc (maybe up to 256) although then it also depends on the length of the movie, as I also aim to burn to 4gb.
