Data Gathering For Recurring PhotoImpact 11 Problems
Since the release of PhotoImpact 11, there have been a number of problems reported by users. I have filtered the common ones and the potential bugs. I have actually simulated this and tried to duplicate the listed problems but my PI11 works fine. So in hopes of gathering data that could solve the problem, I would like to request the cooperation of you users to contribute in looking for the cause of these problems in hopes of generating fixes for these:
1. "Invoke Options dialog box is checked but the "Image Optimizer (Options)" screen does not show when you click save.
2. Screen Capture problem
*The Screen Capture setup screen will not display. When selected from File/Screen Capture, it says it's Loading Screen Capture Component.
3. The Text Tool is not working properly. Usually, the keys' "e", "n" and "s" do not work.
4. "Save As" doesn't work.
5. The Attributes toolbar icons missing.
6. If you open PhotoImpact via double clicking on an associated image file or via the edit function in Photo Explorer, the software crashes and will not load.
*Note: Please do not post new complaints on this thread. The purpose of this discussion is to gather information only. If you think you've discovered a bug or feel that your problem should be included on this list, post your comment or complaint on the proper thread. There is a discussion for that as well. We will be the ones to determine if it should be included on the list or not.

Seems I've made some tough decisions
As for 2. After a few seconds of "Screen capture component loading" i get windows dialog "Server is busy. Cannot complete this task because program is busy. Click Switch To button to activate busy program and remove problem." and buttons Switch To, Retry and Cancel. After pressing Switch To I get normal screen capture config window. All subsequent calls to the window in the same PI session have no problems.
As for 5. Happens quite rarely.
The problems with startup and paint tools sticking to edge of canvas also should be reported.
Also I think the problems with crashes on loading and capture are someway related, as users reported PI crashes on loading .fio components and scapx.exe (screen capture config component) also has problems when opening .fio files.
Also some ppl have apparenty problems with PI crashing when idle or for no apparent reason, while working with it.
IMO users also should report all TSR programs.

Windows XP (service pack 2) download all updates

To simulate fault:
AMD Athlon 2.8ghz
512mb DDR ram
20gb free hard drive space
To simulate fault:
- Download & upgrade PI 10 to version 11
- Attempt and fail several times to use 'smart download', then give up.
- Open a new page and try the text tool
- Attempt to apply text styles to the written text & find it doesn't work properly, before applying the chosen style. Find then you can't alter that style so have to write new text.
- Experience 1st software fault
- Re-start program
- Find then that the ENS letters have ceased to function
- Get told that switching to the Basic workspace and back clears the fault, temporarily.
Multivision filter (Lens filter) not working in 11
I'm frustrated with the Multivision filter in PI11. It worked great in 10, but is very buggy in 11.
When I go into multivision and specify "Symmetric" with 21 facets, the small preview looks correct. Then, when I hit "OK" and it updates the main picture, it only gives me 3 facets! Click undo, try again, same thing. Click undo, try to go into multivision again but the dialog box disappears! The only way to get the dialog on the screen again is to close PI and restart it.
I'm reverting back to 10 for now as it is much more stable. I hope Ulead puts out a patch soon!

AMD athlon 2.8ghz 512mb DDR ram.
About my PC. Its defragged regularly, has all Windows updates, I use Registry Mechanic to clean the system, and I use Nortons IS and Microsoft Anti-spyware to check for viruses etc. My PC is well maintained.
I have now un-installed PI 11 and cleaned up the installation with Registry mechanic, and re-installed PI 11. By some miracle PI lost the ENS letters error (temporarily), but regained it on re-start. I have gained the addition of the 'Ulead auto-detector' on the task bar, which wasn't there before.
The text tool & styles feature has many faults, and its frustrating to try using styles or type letters which may or may not work. Because security is such a big issue now, I think that some features aren't being installed correctly & conflict with how my PC works. How can this be resolved?

PI 11 Recurring Faults
eperiencing big problems with the text tool on upgrading from PI10 to PI 11. The e, n and s keys do not work, in addition the the s key selects text during text entry. I have installed PI11 on both my computers one Celerion with XP, the other XP professional with Athelon processor. The problem is common in both to the extent I have had to revert to PI10
Thank You for starting this thread, Any help appreciated

Problems you are experiencing:
3. Text editor: "e" doesn't work at all; "s" forces me to quit the editor
Additonally -
(a) Having problems retaining the correct file associations
(b) I've "lost" the contents of the libraries and galleries 3 or 4 times, and had problems getting them re-installed.
CPU (Processor):AMD64 3700
Memory (RAM): 1Gb
Display Card: nVidia
Hard Disk Free Space: 250Gb+
Installer type/filename: Upgrade CD (upgrade from v8)
Operating System: Windows Xp SP2 + all updates
Windows Region Settings: English UK
Last time you ran Windows Update: Automatically/frequently
Date when you purchased and installed PhotoImpact: about 1 week ago
File Type/Size you are working on: JPEG, mostly 2.5 - 3.5 Mb
Post edited to remove a "problem" which wasn't (when I found out what I was doing wrong!) and to add the file association retention problem which has only just started to become an issue for me.

After reading over other posts, it seems that we have all used upgrade CD or trial versions. Is there anything to this???
