Post by qaz90 »

Hello,
I use Ulead Videostudio 8 that I buy wite my Ieee 1394, every time when I try to brun a DVD after the program convert 98% from the file I get this error:
ERRor: 80041c21

I have XP OS pro.
The DVD CD ROM is PIONEER DVD RW DVR 106D 1.07
and the program is Ulead Videostudio 8
I have free space n my HD of 22Gb
The file is a AVI file 59 Min.

The error Msg that I get is when I try to brun a DVD or to make a ISO file
When I try to brun a VSCD there is no problem only when I try to make DVD.

How can I know what is the problem and how I can fix the problem?

Tnx for your help

Wow. I was getting the very same error last night. I even wrote down the error code to post this morning. I hope you get an answer 'cause I need it too.

My specs are similar. I don't think the drive matters since it's screwing up on the encoding. I have plenty of free space though. But my AVI is a lot smaller; maybe 5 minutes.

However, I have something different:
I have an NTCS camera. I pre-rendered the projects and this is only happening when I try to actually put them on the DVD. I'm trying to change the audio to PAL (my in-laws can't hear my other DVDs on their PAL TV). I can do NTCS fine, but when I try to put the PAL rendered projects onto DVD, kaflooey "Error: 80041c21".

I an use the PAL

In my area we use only PAL.
The problem is only with AVI file is with MPEG too.
I think that Ulead have a BUG with converting 2 DVD file.....

Sam,
You should not be "Converting" while trying to burn a DVD. Follow the procedure that is described in the top sticky post to prevent these problems.

That being said, any idea why mine were "converting"? I had pre-rendered all of them as seperate projects. I was just trying to actually put them on the DVD. Could it be the audio conversion from NTSC to PAL, bearing in mind that all projects were rendered with PAL audio?

Thanks,
Ben..

Converting

Hi John

The "Converting" is automaticly start when I brun the DVD.
How can I brun from AVI file to DVD Disc without converting? the program do it first thing.

Read this sticky post at the top of the VS forum to get the recommended procedure.

Ben,
You can also fall into the "converting while burning" trap by selecting video files in the burn with mismatched properties or by failing to manually set up the burn properties in the burn module (tiny, well hidden, gear shaped control located second to the right on the bottom left of the burn window).

That brings up another question I had. I'm pretty sure all of the properties are the same between the projects I pre-rendered and the compilation that I'm buring to DVD, but does one trump the other? I have PAL audio set on all my pre-rendered images, and I'm also setting on the compilation project. As they are NTCS videos will they always have to be re-rendered whether I'm rendering the actual project or just trying to burn it?

It should be noted that when it says "converting..." when I'm trying to burn the compilation is goes much more quickly than a normal rendering. I usually get the error after about 15-20 seconds. That makes me think that it may not actually be converting anything, but checking all of the resident pre-rendered projects to make sure they are compliant with the current project's properties.

Thanks, jc.

Did you check the box 'Do not convert compliant MPEG files', which is also hidden away in the Options icon in the bottom left of the burning screen?

Qaz90: to explain simply, when you have your project in the timeline and have done all your edits, you should then click on Share > Create Video File > DVD. This will produce a DVD-compliant mpeg-2 file from your current AVI file. You can even test play it to see if everything looks OK. If everything is OK, then you close your project, click on Share > Create Disc > DVD, and then insert your converted mpeg-2 file, build your menus, chapters etc and then Burn. At the moment, you have your project in the timeline and go straight to Share > Create Disc, without the first step of creating a DVD-compliant mpeg-2. Although theoretically VS can do this, many people have had problems when they use this procedure, so we recommend the two steps I have outlined above (plus remembering to click 'Do not convert compliant MPEG files'.)

Yup, sure did.

Jizlobber,
It doesn't matter which video file's properties win because the result is an attempted conversion in the burn module, which usually results in a problem for you. I was reminded of that recently when I accidentally tried to burn a DVD with a widescreen video (16x9) and a 4x3 video. When I hit the burn button, VS immediately notified me that "This is going to take a LOOONG time." So I hit the ESC key and selected different videos with identical properties for the burn.

However, it you forget to manually setup your properties, Ulead's default properties will trump everything in your video files, which can cause serious problems.

Well, I think I may have found something. The only encoder I have is the one that comes with VS8 (MPEG). So when I was putting them to DVD that was the encoder being used (right?). However, the file types I was using as the pre-rendered input were AVIs, since they are the only ones that let you specify PAL audio. Also someone had told me that PAL audio and MPEG don't get along. So, I guess it was converting those AVIs to MPEGs. Is that a valid assumption?

I just re-rendered a project with MPEG file type with PAL compression and it's less than 3 times the size of the AVI. 1. Will this even work? 2. Is the quality going to suffer horribly?

Am I getting closer?????

Thanks again.

Yes, now you are red hot! You were attempting to transcode AVI video into mpeg2 video in the Burn module. Usually fails.

Read the sticky post at the top of the forum. It describes how to set your properties manually. Never use Video Studio default values.

When you learn how to manage your properties in the Capture phase, the Edit phase, when you create your project video file, and during the Burn sequence, you will be a happy camper.

Well, things certainly seem to be going better so far. Instead of "converting" videos it went straight to "Video/Audio Multiplexing".

Another question:
On the last screen with the little gear icon, there's another icon next to it. I set all of the properties in the gear menu, but the other menu has a "TV system type" with options of NTSC and PAL/SECAM. If I have everything already rendered with PAL frame rate, PAL DVD compression, etc., what does that second menu do?

I'll post an update when the disc finishes and I can test it.

Update: It seems to have worked. It didn't crash at least. I tested it on my NTSC/PAL DVD player and it works, but the other did as well. It still sounds like it's favoring the left speaker (I checked the audio levels in VS8 and they looked fine, coming out of both channels), and I don't know why it does that, unless it's my setup. That's another problem though. Thanks to everyone for the help. It's appreciated. My in-laws will send their thanks to when they get the 1st vid of their grandchild.
