Beware of memory issues when converting large MPEG2 files

Post by ruggy1 »

I have 512MB memory, but this was not enough to capture a 90 minute analogue file directly to MPEG2 format. Three quarter way through the disk went crazy and I saw memory usage of 800MB memory, so it was obviously swapping and screwing things up. Strangely enough after I stopped the capture, MF3 churned away for another hour and I noticed a 26GB file called 'dswplug.fqf' being used apparently to rebuild the 4GB MPEG2 file. The end result was of coutrse garbage from the time swapping started. If I had 1GB memory it would have worked OK, so beware! Why MF3 needed so much memory and what the 'dswplug.fqf' was I have no idea.
